The Heavy Machine is a personal favorite of mine. I'm just curious, are you going to use it on guitar or bass? Assuming guitar!

I don't like Muffs either but maybe for different reasons than you. But I did love the Ezekiel when I owned it, for having muffy tones (on LED or Silicone) but with a stronger, less compressed attack.

Another one I personally like a lot is the SS/BS Mini, just crank it up, it gets pretty fuzzy.

Please define "metallic." Do you mean heavy metal music, or is this a textural reference, as in a metallic clanging sound? Either way, I'm guessing the EQ of the Mountainking Megalith can be set pretty thick, woofy, and smooth with no crunch whatsoever (or at least it can on the Satellite Effects Megalith clone I've tried). :idk:
I don't mean heavy metal, I mean something in the high frequencies that bother me.

On guitar. Muff make me think too much of distortion.

Aside from everything I already said, also meatheads! Cool circuit.

I think I might understand what Syl is on about with Muffs.
It's this thing in the high mids that makes it sound kinda nasal in a sometimes annoying way.
I hear the same thing in the Heavy Machine vids that were recently posted.
Furthermore bass heavy fuzz pedals can sound kinda bloated in the attack which makes them sound a bit weak.
Besides that a lot of Muffs still sound more like a distortion than like a true fuzz.
I think Syl is more looking for a wide out open fuzz that sounds heavy, good on chords, but still like a true fuzz.

I like your summary and see what you mean. I say Doom bloom! TAFM! Buzzz. To my ears/brain they do what you're saying.

Fuzz pedals that I would recommend:
Bee Baa (maybe too bloated and not strong enough in the attack)
Blackarts Toneworks Pharaoh (it's a Muff but not really, it's more a riff and rock machine)
Bosstone (maybe not thick or heavy enough)
DOD Carcosa
Dr Sci Frazz Dazzler
Electric Heat Ape Blaster
Emanating Fist Electronics DP-01 6618 (it's a Muff but it's a really really great one)
Harmonic Percolator (an additional diode lift switch or knob is great to tweak just how fuzzy you want to go)
Hungry Robot Pedals Hungry Robot HG + LG
Ibanez OD-850 (also a Muff but with a better tonecontrol, maybe not fuzzy enough for you)
Jext Telez Dizzy Tone
JPTR FX Tesla Wolf Overdrive
KMA Machines Fuzzly Bear, Minos
Okko Black Beast
Rangemaster (works great if you run your amp on the edge of breakup, especially if you have an EL84 amp)

FZ2 has tonnes of low end but it's not very good for chords. More than two notes at a time and it turns to mud.

Tell us where in your signal chain you wanna run this fuzz, Syl, because I think that makes a difference.

I'm not sure it's only that easy to be honest, it sits just perfectly between heavy and open plus distortion and fuzz.
I still dig my Harmonic Fragilator and Pharaoh for those type of sounds but they are a bit different from this Model feT I think.
