You are, as per usual, dumbing down and missing the point.

Now buy my record for $1.5mil as requested, please.

What could be easier than picking up a guitar and singing what you're thinking? For me I feel complete dysphoria between me and my music if my lyrics are anything other than about me, about my own life, about how I feel

Diff'rent strokes
That's amazing. I feel the exact opposite. Like if it's just about me then who gives a shit? The last thing anyone needs is to hear about my feelings, feelings which even I have mixed thoughts about their validity.

edit: and I really wish you were here, Case. I'm getting my ass kicked by frigging dangling modifiers. My online English class is harder than I anticipated.

Consider all the concern about kids these days, then consider that people like casecandy teach them.

You could write about this. This is fertile ground. One of my friends wrote a great song about being a communist. He wrote, "I'm not sure/If my ideas are killing me or if they're the cure." I thought that was a good lyric, if a little plain.

One of my favourite lyrics is from Say Anything (big surprise), "Shit! Nothing makes sense. So I won't think about it. I'll go with the ignorance. Eat, sleep, fuck, and flee forwards, that's me. I am full of indifference. What do the old people teach us but how to die? What do your hissy fits teach except how to cry, pussy, cry?" So he was writing about what you were expressing, really, uncertainty, self-doubt.

ANYWAY.

You should write about whatever you want to! I love lyrics about other stuff, I just can't write them. Actually speaking as an English teacher writing about feelings is a very quick way to suck at writing, because it inherently involves fewer images/less imagery than writing about events, and images are what make for interesting writing, period.

P.S. Always consult the Perdue Owl website. https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/597/1/

Basically a dangling participle/modifier is when you have part of a sentence that makes reference to something else in the sentence, but it's unclear exactly what it's referring to. Like, "As the President of the Kennel Club, my poodle only receives the finest quality dog food." Who's the President of the Kennel Club, the person speaking, or the poodle? So the grammatically correct version would be, "As the President of the Kennel Club, I only give my poodle the finest quality dog food."

I have, in fact, been through almost all of it. Outside of Chicago there's really no reason for me to ever go back, IMO. :)*
Funny. The midwest is actually pretty great, besides being a few years behind. I mean, it is huge, and far too flat (thoug less flat than people think, it is not the great plains), but nice. If Maine wasn't too close to people I never want to be around (read: within 10 hours) I would have gone there. Perfect weather.

As if being ahead of the times and en vogue was the burning desire of everyone who ever picked up a guitar. Has it ever occurred to you that a lot of awesome bands started out with no intent other than to completely rip off their heroes? And have fun doing it? Or maybe make money doing it? It worked for St. Vitus. It really, really worked for Quentin Tarantino.
I used to feel this way, and recently I tried rewatching The Devil's Rejects and realized I have a lot less tolerance for this brand of creative work than I did a decade ago. A lot of the horror genre has become uninteresting homage.

Also Banksy is like, the ur example of college activist idiocy, and that image is severely missing the point.

Whatever, Banksy's great. I'll only argue about it if you want to, though.

Well, there are also interesting homages (It Follows was pretty good and it was wall-to-wall Brian DePalma). But to clarify, I wasn't saying that ripping people off is always a good thing. Sometimes it is what it is, unoriginal. I mean, the existence of Jet attests to this. But other times, it can be great. Led Zeppelin are Led fucking Zeppelin and never did anything original. "Great artists steal."

I zoned out when you guys wrote some shit about Jesus Lizard being forgettable.
I should have expected it, but it still struck me as mighty fucking stupid.

Sorry, not sorry. Never could get myself into it. Knowing I was supposed to only made me more reluctant.

I would hesitate to call It Follows De Palma, but it was great.

Im not saying anyone is supposed to do anything, but it struck as kind of odd, to say the least, more so from case's point of view, that someone with such a vested interest in the current state of punk wouldn't be a bit more appreciative of the Jesus Lizard.
But you know, what do I know.

Yeah, I was going to go the inverted commas but I thought I'd take it easy.

Dase, I'm assuming you're familiar with Brispunk, and the awful envelope of folk and sea-shanty punk that has spawned like mould under it's fetid and rotting wings?

Not everyone thinks the Pogues are great, give it a rest guys.

I've sort of avoided the folk punk from brisbane for the most part? I'm more sort of familiar with the whole Teargas / Last Chaos thing.

BUT, I'm from melbourne, the place that kicked that off and gave some of its worst exponents who used to play acoustic blink 182 covers at house shows uninvited their now burgeoning careers, so...I fucking hate folk punk with a passion. It's all either dog on string anarchists with rich parents who steal the door takings and make your couch stink for a week or fucking clean shirts singing deep introspective shit about living in pretend poverty while they gentrify footscray.
