FF's aren't buffered bypass unless they are some Dunlop abomination best not mentioned (or the Classic Fuzz, which seems okay). The switch is a DPDT, so I'm assuming true bypass wiring.

If you solder, you could try reflowing all the connections, especially if anything looks particularly dull. You might get lucky and fix continuity on the signal path.

Send it to Ian. Even if you can get it to work the way it is, chances are it'll sound like crap anyway -- those Cornells are really hit & miss.
For 40 quid though you did well. I'd be tempted to just replace the whole guts of the thing.

just got it, haven't plugged it in yet to test but here are some pics!
nothing looks amiss so maybe just a bad switch? we'll see!

transistor 1 was indeed soldered in at the factory the WRONG WAY ROUND!
board is working fine now i switched the transistor round but the fuzz isn't passing through the switch, will investigate this today!

Just to bring the thread to a happy ending, Fuzz Face is fixed, new switch, new battery snap (floppy one fell apart while working on it, replaced with hard plastic one!), and transistor 1 soldered in the right way round!
Actually doesn't sound too bad as well!

I did not realise this thread had continued after id sent the ff off.... But got it back today, Ian (ghost_effects) was most helpful throughout the whole process. Thanks to everyone who helped out with identifying, pointing me to ian, or in general posting advice :)

By the way, it does sound really good... gonna struggle to sell it i think :P
