i didn't try to make a list because most everything i'd have named had already been mentioned by someone. nobody mentioned Gang of Four yet, though, who were kind of the missing link between The Clash and Mission of Burma.

I don't know, either the S/T ROIR tape or Rock for Light.

True.

This has always amused me

Stiff Little Fingers - Inflammable Material
Bad Brains - I Against I

also, Swingin' Utters. Haven't listened to them in a while and not sure what specific album to recommend.

Sex pistols are junk but a necessity in any punk list nonetheless.

i don't agree that they're junk, though they did have a distinct Malcolm McLaren side. "Bodies," for example, isn't a mere shock-value number at all; rather, it's as brutally serious an anti-abortion screed as you'd ever expect to hear from a rage monkey (and i use that characterization with affection...i love Lydon) who was raised Catholic.

die little baby
screaming
"MUMMYYYYYYYYYY..."
stupid fucking bloody mess
it's not an animal
it's an abortion

he's not playing around. he's as serious as a heart attack. or more pertinently, as serious as an abortion.

plus they rawked like Mott the Hoople on stimulants. if that isn't redundant.
