Yea, the "90"
Oh haha I thought he meant like it was 90's voiced or something haha. Thanks Damn there are so many choices its overwhelming. I honestly don't know which direction I want to go in at the moment. If I play my cards right I might actually be able to get two pedals instead of just one. Would it be to much if I got the AF and Rat??
Nah. Rats are cake to flip if you decide you like the AF better.
My bet is that you'll dig both and stack them. But that's just my gut feeling.

how much wouLd the mod cost I'm not to good with a soldering iron so I wouldn't trust myself yet. Also, well the rat I was looking at was from the 80's and had the lm308 chip (I think that's what it is) but does that make a hide difference?
I'm sure a lot of the guys that build here will back me up, but honestly I think the chip makes the least bit of difference when it comes to the circuit. You'll end up paying 2x or more just to have a $5 chip. It's the same type of deal with Tubescreamers and the JRC4558D (which is even more stupid b/c they cost less than $.50). If you were to pick up a cheaper Rat, you could always get an IC socket put in.
I haven't personally done the Reutz mod, but as far as I know it's as easy as snipping one of the resistors. Most people though will install a toggle switch, so that they can bypass that section of the circuit and still be able to switch back to stock.

It is overwhelming, just buy one at a time, if you don't like it, well that's why we have a b/s/t thread, and preferebly in this order: 1.Arc Flash 2.Devi Ever 90 3.Rat
And for the record the Rat is like the Fuzz version of a Marshall, if it were a fuzz, also check out Rhythm and Detonation, he'll make just about anythin for you, I just had him make a Box of rock clone without the Boost, and I ordered a Bazz Fuss, they all come with custom graphics that you choose!

Thanks is well there's a turbo rat for sell by me but idk how it compares to the original. Also, is there a difference between the big box one and Rat 2?

Thanks for the advice is he on the forums or does he have a website I can check out?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the main difference is that the RAT2 has additional circuitry to include an LED.
tashiattack wrote:I listen to the same bands as you and I use a blackout effectors musket , which can pretty much cover almost anything (including juts a more straight forward distortion sound). I actually don't think any youtube video does that pedal justice to what it actually sounds like.
A lot of what you play will depend on your amp though, what are you going to use it through? Also, isn't there a new Devi Ever 90s pedal? Have you looked into that?
That being said, I'm sure you can't go wrong with a vintage or modded Rat.
I would be running it through a Sovtek Mig 60, and do you know the name of the Devi pedal?
Most of the pedals mentioned here would sound awesome through your sovtek. I find that my musket runs really good through EL 34 tubes (my friends Mig-100), whereas the amp I use (fender twin) I stack it into a Catalinbread DLS.
Also, I was referring to this http://90.deviever.com . It's pretty straight forward, nothing fancy I think?
And you're right, there are too many choices. Earthquaker Hoofs are pretty rad too.

Oh God another recommendations just what I need haha jk, yea I looked up the 90 but can't seem to find it anywhere for sell like PGS, Fuzzhugger, Analogue Haven etc... so I think thats going low on the list for now.

What's your price range? That could be a determining factor too.

under $200 perferably $150 but if its worth it I will go over a little

I guess it comes down to the amount and type of "fuzzyness" you want. Like you said, rat is going to sound more like a distortion but it won't sound "wooly" if you know what I mean. Why not get a good overdrive and a fuzz? I'm sure you can find both for about 200$ together.
If thats not what you want to do, I still strongly recommend the musket because you can tweak it , and the neat thing about it is unlike standard big muffs you've got full control of the mids. There's also a "pre" knob on it which acts like a pre-amp gain. It's really neat.

Thats what I was thinking with the TS9 and Big Muff. Have any other good combos? The AF and Rat have been mentioned.

I'd stay away from the standard big muffs and go towards a hoof or a musket if thats the type of sound you are going for.
Also I'd pick a timmy over a TS9. Takes 6 months to get made, but Paul C only charges 125$
You can't go wrong with a timmy + a good quality fuzz
