I just mean, the scope of Sailor Jerry Collins' influence on tattoo art is comparable to that of Iommi's, on metal.
Comparable to Steve Vai perhaps, but not Iommi.
No, I suppose Ed Hardy would be Steve Vai...? Although Steve Vai is probably a better guitarist than Ed Hardy is a tattooist. (Speaking purely in terms of technical skill in either case.) Hardy's primary contribution to tattooing was that he introduced elements of the classic Japanese school into the American school, whereas Collins mastered both but did not blend them.

Sailor Jerry art style is famous, but it is the type of product worshipped by tasteless human caricatures.
Your average BOSE, Monster, Coors Lite, Applebee's, Dominos, Nickelback consumer thinks it's
the shit.
Yes it's historic, iconic and a huge success. It's still unflattering all over.
Different strokes/folks apply...but it's pretty embarrassing to be associated with that type of such and such shiz

Like any tattoo, if it's something that's supposed to have meaning and you just slap it on there willy-nilly, it's gonna suck. If you just want a pretty or badass tattoo, there are so many things that would do the job. So I would agree with the statement that too many people get sailor tattoos for shits and giggles. Too many people get Asian, Jewish, Arabic, Native American, and punk tattoos for shits and giggles. I can't really control that. I just know Sailor Jerry was great. And yes, his influence may have trickled down to the plebs. For example... is the rigging on the ship accurate? If no, it's a weak imitation.

Depends on that tattoo? A lot of people feel that you have no business getting a tattoo that's obviously from a culture you have no connection to. Like a headdress or the endless dreamcatcher tattoos. They'll say "cultural appropriation" but I'm more likely to just say "phony." I'm not saying you can't get a tattoo just because it looks cool. I'm all for that. I just mean... something that means a lot and has a very defined cultural meaning isn't really yours to just screw with. Not necessarily.

FWIW I meant ed hardy is not outstandingly technically skilled. This derail is stupid.

My mom warned me about Huey.
I live in Quebec now but i'm from the East Coast. Apparently there was quite a scandal in our region in the 1980s when Huey was booked to play in Newfoundland, and stated in an interview something to the effect of, "I don't want to play in Newfoundland, they don't know how to party out there." For those unfamiliar with the concept of Newfoundland, if there is one thing you could say about the people of that fine island that would be so categorically untrue as to border on being offensive, it would be: they don't know how to party. It's like saying tacos aren't delicious; it's just not true. Most Newfoundlanders don't even have blood anymore, just, like, Jamieson. Anyway, apparently, they got it into their heads that it needed to be
demonstrated to Mr. Lewis that they could party, and they rioted and tore shit up all night.
I have no idea if this story is apocryphal. My mom was on a lot of drugs in the early 1980s. Like,
a lot a lot. She told me that she distinctly remembers sitting in a car in the parking lot of an Atlantic Superstore, listening to Journey ("the original lineup with Aynsley Dunbar, so much better than the '80s shit") on acid thinking, "This is it. My parents warned me I was gonna fry my fucking brain. And it's gone. I did it. I fried my brain," as a friend rapped on the window, trying to get her attention, and she knew he was there, but was completely helpless to respond to him. So, it's possible that she made this entire story up? Google tells me Huey played Newfoundland for the first time in 2012? I don't know. But I do know this: I can't trust a man, whom about there is even a shred of contempt for the Atlantic provinces of Canada.
He's no good, WeHuntKings. Just no good at all. Probably doesn't know shit about settin' lobster traps or firin' .308s. Who needs it, wha'?
