Warwick Alien 6 string Fretless

So this was on my doorstep last Tuesday. It's GIGANTIC; reminds me of the old Tacoma Thunderchiefs in size, volume and tonal quality. As a fretless, this easily has the best fretless tone I've ever heard plugged in. It's just gorgeous, creamy and smooth with a full bodied sound.

i want a chance to A/B the Gretsch Electromatic and the Epiphone Allen Woody...i really want a big-bodied, round-sounding bass with a short scale as an alternative to my fretless Jazz Bass..

The Gretsch is 34" scale and to me sounded better and played better than the Allen BUT, I played the Epiphone over a year ago.

I played one of those new cheaper Gretsch hollow body basses in red a few weeks ago... it was ok... but it did not wow me at all..

This is what I want, but it's so hard to save up for so long when you could buy pedals instead #firstworldproblems

They're great but I'd prefer it in one of the bursts.

How's it sound unplugged?

Fairly loud, comparatively. The only other AEB that I've played that's as loud as the Alien is the old Tacoma Thunderchief, and that's probably because the Thunderchief was as big bodied as the Alien is. I had a rehearsal with two acoustic guitarists and it held up by itself, unplugged. The tone is full and woody, with good articulation and clarity.

I am going to have to change out the bronze strings though. Five minutes into playing it and my fingers are usually black. Will probably try a bright set of strings; I think if you put flats on this, it would end up sounding muddy.
