Makoto Kawabata's (Acid Mothers Temple) pedals for the Japanese New Music Festival tour. He also had a Big Muff and a CryBaby Wah at the end of the chain that I somehow left out of the photo.

Anyone know what that silver Zoom pedal is?

Oh yes. That is the venerable Zoom 505II (guitar version). It sounds like complete and utter dogshit, so I'm not surprised to guess that Kawabata made it sound nothing less than phenomenal.

Just to be clear, we (Eivind August and I) didn't see AMT really, we went to the "New Japanese Music Festival":

The Japanese New Music Festival is a showcase tour in which the trio of Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins), Atsushi Tsuyama (Acid Mothers Temple), and Makoto Kawabata (Acid Mothers Temple) perform as multiple different units. The tour will return to Europe this autumn, with our three heroes performing as 8 separate groups. The groups mix and deconstruct all kinds of music from psychedelic rock, prog, jazz, classical to contemporary composition, experimental, and ethnic music. Their sound is unashamedly uncategorizable, with undercurrents of Frank Zappa and his belief that humour was an essential part of music. Each of the members brings a rich wealth of musical learning, knowledge and experience. The line-up for this year's tour will be: Ruins Alone, Acid Mothers Temple SWR, Akaten, Zoffy, Zubi Zuva X, Psyche Bugyo, Atsushi Tsuyama Solo, Makoto Kawabata Solo.

They did play "normal" music, but there was also a japanese radish grating solo, an electrical boothbrush and water gurgling performance, and this zipper battle

I loved seeing AMT a few years ago. Really crazy, super tight and practiced for how nuts the performance was.

I bet they'd make some really cool music if they could only realize that Bruce Springstein blows chunks.

I listen to them now and then...but what? I guess I only really listen to one album, but I hear no organizer, no hummingbird, no bit commander. Did they suddenly go prog and I missed out?

And don't hate too much on the Bruce. Nebraska is where it's at. The rest...meh. But Nebraska makes up for any wrong he's done.

I love their 2nd and 3rd album (I think, '59 sound and American Slang) but think the pedal hype happened with their latest album. The sound is pretty different and a sound I can associate to "lots of pedals-music". I don't like the album. But I like pedals! :D
