EDIT: I retract the VU, at least lou says he didn't like the doors.
The MC5 formed in 1964, the Doors in 1965. So I don't see how the Doors could have influenced them getting into music.

I still listen to and enjoy The Smiths. But I will hate upon Moz forever.

He has always sounded like Kermit the Frog with peanut butter on the roof of his mouth to me.

It's a love/hate thing with Jacob Bannon. I think I love Converge's music enough to tolerate his yipping.

+1 for sure. It's been a barrier but TBH it grows on you over time.

It's because this thread is about not liking a band based solely on voice and Muse is just garbage through and through. :)*
haha yeah they are pretty dumpy, their music doesn't have a lot of depth or emotion for me.

Bannon's screams are incredible, when I first heard them I thought he was screaming through a distortion pedal. Then I saw them live, no pedal, but it sounded just as raw. he cups the mic a little too hard sometimes.

SPACERITUAL wrote:Im just going to say this about the doors and that will be it. I don't really care if it converts anybody but it can't just go without saying. The retards you knew in high school have no idea what the doors sounds like. They listen to love street or whatever, buy the american poet shirt, and thats it. Its the same as the kids that buy the shirts with bob marley smoking a joint on them.

I certainly understand the sentiment. I hate bob marley and always will, and precisely because of the idiots with their t-shirts. Also peter tosh was hard as fuck soooooooo

Anyway, the doors. I just want you guys to listen to this song. Just listen to it and try and get that stupid picture of jim with his shirt off out of your mind. Dig that harsh ass organ. Listen to robby SCREAMING on guitar.

Try to stay out of the fuckin way while kreiger and manzerek push each other around. Taking shots and each trying to tower over the other while all the while morisson loses his fucking mind screaming at you about a DEAD PRESIDENTS CORPSE IN THE DRIVERS CAR...and this just 5 years after kennedy.

Listen to them as they break down and get sick with the entire song while john densmore tries to keep the whole thing on the rails. Dig that last, hateful, infantile few blasts of straight noise as the song shoots itself in the head spraying blood and grey matter allover your face.

if you still hate the doors after that thats fine but i don't think a single person can listen to this song and say they lacked balls or that they were the idiotic hippy caricature that they are made out to be. If you can't hear the influence this had on kraut, psych, noise, industrial, etc. then i don't think your ears work properly. Maybe I'm wrong. No i don't think I'm wrong but whatever i tried.

Fair enough. Again, there's no accounting for taste. And my intent is only to have some fun with this thread, not to shit all over your deity. If you love Las Puertas, then you should continue to do so no matter what some of your ILF brethren might say.

I don't really hate them...I just think that they're kinda lame. Again, they're not for me. That song--while I can totally see what it is you're talking about--sounds to me like a Cream B-side where they got a little off track. I can see how you make the connection to noise, or proto-punk, or anything else, really, but none of this seems scary to me. Not like Lou or Iggy (but, then again, I grew up in the same town as Iggy, and he's a local deity--though I don't know what kind of ILFer would come after Iggy Fucking Pop, so perhaps this point is moot).

Maybe it's the "art rock" thing. Maybe it's that Morrison seemed as committed to "life/death/excess as performance art" to such a degree that it eclipsed their (pedestrian--again, my own opinion) music. Maybe it's their stupid fucking name, which instantly makes me think of: The Turtles, The Zombies, The Beatles, The Monkees, The _______ (varying shades of 60s pop progressivism). So yeah, you're probably right--I'm guilty of associating them with things unfairly. But their music does little to dissuade me.

Please take no offense. I like tons of music that others find unlistenable...this is the first conversation I've had about The Doors in a long time.

^^^Upon re-reading this thread, I see that you're also one of the people defending The Cure. Fuck.

Let's start a band. We won't make any music, we'll just argue about shit on stage while holding guitars.

Unbeknownst to the humble commenters on the web forum known as "I Love Fuzz," all of the history of rock music had been quietly leading up to this proclamation.

Hey what do you guys think of Neutral Milk Hotel

Disclaimer: I will lose my shit over this.

I don't think I've ever listened to them for more than 30 seconds or so. I like that one album cover they have, though. The guy on the boat.

The... the kid in the water with the drum lady on a boat?

Fun fact: all the guitars on that album are acoustic direct in. The producer, who's the guitarist in Apples In Stereo (another Elephant 6 band, along with Of Montreal), pushed all the levels to create the fuzz. No Muffs involved...

man I love this video... look at these '90s indie kidz bop
