good luck finding a black one... you'd have to paint or have painted your own..
How common are black on black ones with black hardware? I've seen plenty of black ones but with a white pickguard and chrome hardware I really like this one but looking at all the pics is pretty beat to shit with some paint missing on the neck and a bunch of marks and spider cracking on the body, plus he's asking for 1500$ + shipping even though its beat up. If it was closer to 1k$ I would consider selling off a bunch of stuff to buy it, but for now i'd be much happier just building another parts p-bass...... with a ric pickup
Did they make black pickup covers? Yet again i've never seen one but I havent been looking too hard.

80's - early 90's When I fist started playing in 92 the first RIC bass I ever saw was a ruby w black trim 4003 that to me at 13 was the coolest looking this I had ever seen outside of a V In catalogs at the time they had black trimmings too... [I've never played one though...] Black ones are called Black stars If look though even back into picts of 70's ones they made a few w black binding and guards...

Black star's eh? I like the all black one but i kinda like the one i posted witht he white binding a lil more All three of those basses you posted are gorgeous, that ruby one especially! I'm not a huge fan of red, but i can deal with blood red.... as long as there are no sparkles... And from that second pic it seems they did make black pickup covers or palm rests whatever you wanna call them. One of these days I will finally be able to pick up a ric, but no i know what i'm looking for. Thanks for the info!

Unless it had no binding and an ebony fretboard, but that wouldnt be any fun.

I'd still go silver. Which defeats the purpose, I suppose...

Hmmm black paisley wouldnt be too hard to paint if you could find the right fabric design to work with, you could buy a MIM and have someone paint the body for you.
Get rid of the silver for the Roger Waters-style black pickguard and hardware. I wants it so hard.
I saw a similar burst alder 4 string p-bass body on ebay earlier
and i really like the black paisley idea, trying to figure out in my head how you could do it with great detail other then with vinyl. I've seen some really cool designs done with using paisley fabric as masking paper when painting cars but it needs to be like a knitted fabric with openings (not a flat cotton sheet).

I think that bass you posted looks great. My point is more of a knowing that there is a chance that that bass was built like it is now so you shouldn't pay the price you would for a blackstar RIC

in the late '60s early '70 a lot of custom bikes and cars were painted with a lace patern. lace stretched over and used as a mask, it looks really cool if done right.

MM
That's exactly what i was using for inspiration as far as painting on a paisley pattern, but lace doesnt exactly have all the detail that paisley does. I'm still trying to figure out what would be the best way to do it. It's possible, i know it is.....
