I think the presence of one or two expression pedal/joystick inputs is essential for this device.

A 6 cartridge with order switching, total bypass and expression capabilities would be the shit; like an analogue, customizable multi effect unit

This is an excellent idea, I do hope you're patenting it.

You know how bad ass it would be to throw a NES style controller, that controls some weird effect like a ring modulator or something, to someone up front and let them control some aspect of the sound. (Not anything so drastic but still it would be interesting.)

And gameboy style slots so they were hidden a little more would be harder to make but I think it would put some at ease...I personally am not scared of it.

I'm looking forward to someone building a cartridge socket into the side of their guitar. :animal:

This shit is now officially open source.

http://www.effector13.com/preliminary-cart-dimensions/

I want to stress that these are PRELIMINARY dimensions that have been created before even an initial prototype has been made, so as we go through the prototyping process there may be changes, but for the most part these should be relatively accurate in terms of a general surface area for the placing of components, etc.

this sounds awesome, and the price is right. it'd be really neat to see some non-fuzz cartidges out of it. particularly an 8-bit thing that is the most 8-bit-y effect outside of midi. cough cough :poke:
or perhaps in the spirit of the ye-olde-consol aesthetic, perhaps bring back some cheezy 80's quality effects like some of the tinny as fuck chorus and phase pedals Zappa used in his later years

But seriously, I think I've gotten way off track from my intial point. I'm in no way against the technology or the builder. I just find it odd that the general consenus of this forum tends to be against new-fangled digital multi-effects, but yet when what is essentially a multi-effects platform appears from a cool builder using antiquated technology, most people seem to be very much in favour of it.

i agree with your whole anti-digital point about folks on this thread, but the way i see it, this allows for a layering of effects that i can't do with my digital multifx processor. i can't get pitch shift layered over a vibrato, or delay and tremolo (ok, i can because if how its set up, but you get the idea) but with this i can (in theory). also it is potentially easier to switch through effects. you just pop in a different cartridge or two instead of scrolling through a potentially huge list of effects.

the only downside I see is that it might get a bit pricey if one wants a lot of non-fuzz effects. but hey. some folks spend $400 for a delay unit... when with this, you could have two different ones together :omg:
