Re: Paranormal Activity
I enjoy horror movies for the visuals. I get scared pretty easily, but I'm more entertained by the creepy-fucked up imagery than the actual getting scared.

Minor spoiler, maybe
The antagonist in Paronormal Activity is never seen and there really is no blood. There are also no "boo!" moments, though the director played off the expectations of these moments pretty well which is why the movie becomes so suspenseful.
I guess I'm more of a fan of the "unseen horror" horror movies. I suppose Paranormal Activity is like The Blair Witch Project in that way.

Re: Paranormal Activity
I really want to see it because horror movies rarely ever scare me, but when they do it fucks my shit. I don't want to spend countless nights lying awake wondering if there's some demon ass ghost thing crawling under my blanket.
Oh and I totally had this same idea a long time ago. When was younger I had this feeling my old house was haunted because all my stuff kept ending up in random places (sunglasses in the downstairs vase, wallet in the Christmas storage bin etc. etc.). Actually one time my baby brother got locked in the washroom, I have no idea how the fuck he reached the lock but that scared the fuck out of me. So when we went on vacation for a week (my whole family) I put one of my childhood stuffed animals in the little space under out stairs and drew a silhouette around it in chalk. Then I set up our old video camera in front of it. Of course the battery ran out in like 3.5 hours without the charger, but when I got home the stuffed animal had moved 5 inches to the left. Still in the same position and everything but 5 inches to the left. Nobody ever came in or out of the house within that week I went to Miami.
FUCK. THAT.

Re: Paranormal Activity
It was blair witch meets the exorcist...but not as good as either
For the record I don't really like the exorcist or blair witch either so that tells you what I thought of the movie
People all around me were constantly getting freaked out by every little thing...but honestly I found the thrills cheap, and I think that the people in the theater just lack imagination.

Re: Paranormal Activity
I decided to give this movie a go, so I watched the original from 2007 (same thing with a different ending.) What I thought? Not scary. It was more along the lines of sorta ridiculous. I thought it was going to be about a ghost haunting, not a demon. Seeing as I'm a Demonologist...well, I picked out EVERY fault that went on with the demon possessing or attacking. The dude Micah was a fuckin' idiot, "OMG IMA GONNA PROVOKE THE DEMON! IM AWESOME!" Every fuck knows NOT to provoke a demon :| I guess not Micah. The chick was an idiot for LISTENING to him. A Demonologist wouldn't have been able to do ANYTHING aside tell them what the hell was bothering them, and give them some tips, but overall, a normal Demonologist is pretty useless. You have to have someone ordained by the Church/Vatican to deal with a demon attack, be it an exorcism or blessing.
But more on the movie..I wouldn't watch it again. It isn't a screamer, it's suppose to be more along the lines of a mind fuck movie..but it pulled this off badly. I actually LAUGHED during the movie, because I thought when the broad was grabbed by the leg and dragged was funny. Go figure. Either way, stupid :| Maybe the new ending is better, but I wouldn't waste my time either way to watch again.

This seems to be the general consensus about the movie: some people thought it was the scariest fucking thing they had ever seen and some people thought it sucked.

Yeah, been one for..13 or so years now. I'm not on the up and up with anything current in the world of Demons and the Occult...but it doesn't seem to really change much anyway.

So, as a Demonologist, what do you do? Is it a business thing? Or are you just well versed in Demon stuffz?

A bunch of nothing, really. It's just really the 'Study of Demons', so yeah, I'm pretty well versed in Demons and the Occult, and a few other Paranormal things. I've helped a few family and friends when they thought they were being pestered by a 'demon', but you can't really do much aside from pointing out if it's a demon, ghost, or just them being crazy. I'm not ordained or anything like that, so I can't preform blessings or anything of the such. I don't activity go out and try to help people, because that's just not me.
Really, I just became enthralled by the occult and paranormal when I was a kid, and just stayed with it. My screen name is actually the name of a fallen angel or Grigori D;
