I picked up a Ring Mod years ago but I’m kicking myself too. Who would have thought they would get MORE expensive than they already were?
Yeah! Like I always thought "eh, they are gonna stay the same price. I'll get one when I dont need to try every bass distortion". Who would have thought moog would stop producing pedals that were in heavy circulation on the used market for close to half the new price

Now it's gonna take ages for somebody to come out with a rolls royce ring mod like the mf102

it's almost funny in that they probably went away because of all you people bitching about the size, bypass, cost when they were in production and complained every time someone suggested them..

I mean those are legit complaints.... however look at the big box DMM. People seem to like the big boxes.....
Imagine if they had revamped them? People would just want the OG big box.....

more than likely.. Personally they are my favorite looking pedals. I would like to see them with a hard on/off switch [I FUCKING HATE SOFT SWITCHES because of when you power on / off they are either set to be engaged or bypasses... ] and side panel custom color/material options
The issues other tham size are laughable considering most people that care about that shit are already going to own truebypassloopers, and a good power unit and a beefy board/case.. But the weight when you have 6 + a CP251 + a MP-201 + all your other pedals in a 24" x 48" road case is a bit extreme.. I think I did one gig with that rig and me and the drummer were like... nope! wont do this again

Thing took up more room in the van and weighed more than the fucking keyboards...

I feel you on the thing with soft switches; it's ALWAYS the wrong setting

If any other logo were on the Moogerfoogers, they would not command the used prices, probably? I mean, the prices on the Model D reissue from a few years back is actually higher than the originals, but I suppose that also has to do with slight upgrades. Still!
I always thought the MF's went out of production due to overall cost issues/scarcity of parts, as well as people complaining, but I always thought they were more suited for synth/tabletop use anyway
The first issues (non-designed badge) editions of the mini pedals were also not true bypass, so I suppose they still didn't care about guitarists until the second wave
Also I never imagined the prices would climb the way they have, but that's a Moog for ya
The Subdecay Harmonic Antagonizer is a version of the Noise Box with an emphasis on the fuzz, but doesn't sound as crazy-go-nuts to me as the old NB's! I wish I hadn't written that one off before it was swallowed up by it's predecessor, but some OG's still pop up from time to time, and I will have to take some time and pounce when the pouncing is right (still wanna pounce on that M3 soon, first of all)

Further down the road, I was trying to think of this pedal (Holy Island Audio Super Freq) for the longest time, until I realized it was a version of the LAL Rattle Crow, which is slightly along the same lines (schematic is out there, if you're DIY handy):

I actually agree... and I bought and sold many many pedals trying to find more pedalboard/gigging/user friendly alternates and never did. Maybe if I hadn't been playing bass in a power trio where having huge deep sounds was't the #1 issue but everything I tried even when it sounded great didn't have the depth sonically

And I think the synth use angle is why, synth players would complain if they couldn't get full spectrum where guitar/bass pedals are generally excepted and given a pass when they don't... "it sounds cool bro"

Stoked to see some CROAK talk in here!
It's a fuzz face-ish style fuzz hitting a filter that hits an envelope filter that hits a power amp for volume. It's not a Bass Balls or clone-clone of anything per say.
It does the things I like about the Freqbox and then turns that on its side to get weird and messy.
With that said, there's nothing like a Freqbox but a Freqbox. I sold it once and then rebought it. Not making that mistake again.
