DD-20 for what you're describing just for the 20s delay max funtime honestly.

Does anyone have much to say about the SolidgoldFX Electroman MKII? It's a little out of my price range but it seems like it's the closest thing to a Rubberneck out there, at least in terms of features...

I've got a Rubberneck too. I get what you're saying, it's an awesome pedal, I don't see it leaving my board anytime soon. But to make up its short comings, I've got a Caverns on my board as well.

One small gripe about the Caverns though, don't know if I'm maybe alone in this...:
If you want to sometimes use it as a straight digital delay, the volume of the repeats may be too quiet. I'm not even talking 100% wet or anything. Cutting through a loud mix with a 50% wet riff is nearly impossible with the Caverns

Sick allround ambient/postrock/shoegaze pedlol though, highly recommend it.

But yeah, seems like an Echosystem/Nemesis would make sense for you. Or go the Nux/Zoom route if you don't wanna spend that much.

DD-20 is fantastic, especially if you can get a rehoused unit with added tap tempo (I know tap tempo isn't a requirement for you, but the rehouse also saves a bit of space).

Interesting. I hadn't heard about this, but now that I look it up, it looks pretty cool. However, does it really save that much space? I'm horrible with spatial stuff so I just can't tell.

I've only played around with the Caverns for a few minutes, and dug it, but it didn't seem quite as "ambient" as I wanted. I always think if I was going to strip things WAY down, I'd get one.

The Echosystem looks pretty rad but is waaaaaay out of budget. The Nemesis is only way out of budget.

Part of what I'm grappling with is my own uncertainty about my delay needs. "Needs." My delay/verb/ambient section currently runs:

Arion AD-10 > DD3 > Canyon > Obscura > Rubberneck > DD5 > RC-3 > Tera Echo/Afterneath > amps

The Arion is for short delays, and mostly to keep the Mel9 (not mentioned here) going. The DD3 I sometimes use for the hold feature but more often as a rhythmic counterpoint to the DD5. The Canyon is 99% of the time in either shimmer or octave mode. The Obscura is 99% of the time in reverse mode. The DD5 is my "primary" delay, and right now the TE/Afterneath are there for ambient flavor. The Rubberneck sits there in the middle but I haven't really figured out what it's doing; I usually use my Behringer multi effect in the loop, though right now there's a Muff in the loop and the Behringer is, I dunno, sitting after the Afterneath or something.

I mention all of this to illustrate the uncertainty. I can't decide if I want something more workstationy - in which case the DD-20 is the clear answer (though three Boss DDs is maybe overkill?) - or a solid analog/modulated thing like an Electroman or DMB or DT or whatever. OR yet another swiss army delay (likely a Flashback) that I could mostly leave on an analog or tape setting. In playing around with the Obscura last night, I realized that the three other modes are pretty sick, and if I wasn't so wedded to setting/forgetting the Canyon and the Obscura I could get some pretty cool sounds. So I don't know exactly what to do with that, as I feel pretty set in my ways, but I did decide to take the Rubberneck off the board for a couple weeks and see what - if anything - feels lacking. Maybe I don't need another delay (heresy!) but could benefit from picking up a Slo or something...

Anyway, looks like my leanings are either DD-20, Electroman (or Multiplex, or DT), or Flashback. Thanks to all who are reading this and helping me work through my existential delay-emma.

OBNE Black Fountain might be up your alley. Pretty simplistic, but you can find them cheap. Doesn’t oscillate at all though.

ETA: A super-quick youtubing suggests that while it is a gorgeous sounding pedal, I suspect it's too dark for me. Nice though.
