I like the pigtronix compressor as well - it stays clean which is what I want from a compressor, although I often use it at the end of a chain or in the middle to limit the output of some of my noisier pedals so they don't overwhelm the next thing in the chain. I like the blend on it and the treble boost a lot - mine is the old 5 knob version, I think there is a smaller cheaper 4 knob version now. The only bad thing on it is the distortion, which is fizzy and yuk.

the new compact version does not have the distortion, a good move I think

I use the accountant for bass and it's just about my favorite compressor for simplicity, size, and price. I also use a Keely bass limiter at the end of my chain and he makes good compressors as well.

I used to have the Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone and loved it for a very functional clean compressor. The things I didn't like about it were the sideways wide/short pedal format, needing an 18v adapter and I found the distortion to be completely unnecessary and not very good. So it sounds like the addressed all those issues with the Micro version. I've been considering picking up a new compressor, I might have to give it a go.

I found having a comp/limiter more useful than a regular comp. The regular one just choked my signal unless I was playing in standard guitar tuning (I mostly play C standard and bass).
What I'm currently using a Mark Bass Compressore (black box version). It can be found for $120 - 140. It sounds amazing but it has two trade offs. A huge enclosure and it's a beast to power 12v 600ma .

I've had an FEA Opti Fet (twice, own one now), FEA DB CL, FEA DE CL and a Darkglass Super Symmetry. My compressor knowledge is pretty limited but I know I prefer the ones that squash or have the ability to more than those that don't. The FEA DB CL was the best IMO but I stuck with the Opti Fet because it's enough for me. It has tone shaping that you can actually hear, so I dig that. The eq is a bit more on the feel it more than hear it side though.
For bass, I love this thing. It gives me more volume, punch and levels out my highs and lows. I'll never play without a comp again.

Accountant seems like it would be a great always on compressor since it can be a cool tone shaper.
I used a Boss CS-2 for a while because it sounded good bumping a dirt pedal to the next level. Also made my bass pop at shows (not in the slapping sense).

Boss CS-2 is a good one for real. I've Had a 2 and a 3, and the 2 is way better in my opinion.

Accountant is so good. Can be almost unnoticeable, or nutso. Stacks really well with fuzz.

Accountant is the best clean tone for people who don't like clean tones.

I like the accountant late in the chain, either last or almost. Just makes everything sound cool, or makes my Katana sound more alive or something. That being said, I like a SSBS Mini in that spot just as much set real mild, and then there is more eq control.

Dammit. You guys are making me pine hard for that dirty Accountant when all I wanted was a crystal clean $100 comp.
Must stay focused on the pigtronix.... must stay focused

basically.
i have one on my guitar board set to drive my amp a fair amount.
i have another on my bass board to juice my fuzz for squealing feedback.
they are both #1 in both pedal chains.

I am one of those people hehe
Which is why I have a plexi style amp. It’s basiclly impossible for me to get a completely clean tone. And pedal-wise I have more dirt than I can shake a stick at, so a compressor that adds more dirt seems irrational.
But still. Dat raw fairfield tastiness.. I think I’ll be mulling over this for a while to come

I ordered an Accountant, just cause I wanted to try something that's different from my old CS-3. It got lost in the mail
Ended up picking up an old cheap Guyatone compressor, to get by untill I get the Accountant.
I actually really dig it so much I don't feel the urge to swap it for something with more bells and whistles. It's the little green fellow. Not the most sturdy build, but it does a great job squashing my bass in a way that doesn't annoy me or add too much noise.
