Good compressor for soy boi noize?

I'm looking for a good flexible all around compressor - for both cleans, and going into fuzz. Up to maybe $100 used. What are we into these days?

The only compressor I've ever liked is the Fairfield Accountant. But I used it as a weird semi-dirty clean tone so I might not be the best judge

That seems to be an old ILF favorite. What is it about it that separates it?

I think besides the small builder thing, it's easy to use and really versatile. Goes from swampy squish to sparkly clean. It can get a little gritty too, which I like.

The cheapest one I see right now is around $150 used though. Which sucks because I wouldn't mind having one myself

I've had two mid-range priced compressors (Accountant and Deep Six). I liked the Accountant the most, but ended up selling it as I didn't really need it for bass. Now that the band that I play guitar with is getting more active I had to get a new comp. Settled on a DOD Comp 280 reissue. Hasn't gotten here yet, but it was $35, so I'm curious to see if the others were worth +$100 more.

I'd really love to get a look at a schematic of the Accountant.
Since it uses a bunch of jfets, it must be an interesting design.

OT: buddy of mine seems to like his MXR Custom Comp.
Personally, I've been wanting to snag an EHX Tube Black Finger for awhile, but I've never had the money for one when they were in my price range.
I've noted that those that tend to like them are either bass players or play downtuned guitars, though.

The Diamond is nice but I never liked it into fuzz (which I think might just be a compressor thing in general). It was amazing for clean tone but when I had it set up for the perfect clean tone as soon as I turned on a fuzz it would sound really weak.

User error, my rig/ears, the diamond in particular, or a fundamental fact of compressors (which is likely to be true to some degree as dirt will compress anyway so is probably best with a 'clean' signal)?

I had zero interest in a compressor for the longest time, but have started to come around to the idea for live stuff, just to tighten everything up. One with a blend knob like the Wampler mini ego seems like a great option.

I've been using the Mooer Yellow Comp(Diamond clone) for 1.5 year now. Cheap and sounds good.

I also use an Ibanez Tube King Comp which is great for very colored and/or noisier stuff.

I really like the pigtronix philosophers tone micro. It sounds great, has the blend knob and super useful treble control. Also easy to find at or under $100 used .

I'm a huge fan of my Accountant. I've used it mostly with drum machines, but I'm moving it over to my bass VI board when I sell my Drumbrute.

I've been toying with the idea of picking up an EQD Warden for my baritone board. Anyone have any experience with them?

Also, I read a post on Reddit when NIN Add Violence came out theorising that the degraded ending of the Background World was done using a compressor to slowly bring up the background noise until the loop just turns into a degraded mess. I have no idea if this is true or not, but I find it very interesting and appealing. It's something I want to try. Anyone do anything like this/know if it's even possible? Seems to me that it's a lot more likely that they just slowly turned up the mix on a heavily distorted channel

+1 on the pigtronix comp.
cheaper but comparable if you can build it or get someone to build it for you, is an optical compressor project called flatline, originally conceived by John Hollis. It exists as a PCB called Afterlife on madbeanpedals.
The best and simplest compressor I've tried, quiet also.
