Joel is still the man imho.
Don't forget he came out with the brothers recently.
More than a new pedal design a year is asking a bit too much.
Updates are cool imho. Versions I don't know, till now they make sense. I mean who loves the wv for its dark sound won't care for the hi fi and viceversa.

I don't want to bash on CBA (they make good stuff)... but one version of the chorus, one version of the phaser, one version of the delay would be enough?
Create something new.
I think that he's "improving" 'em and adding features that customers want?

I think it makes perfect sense to further develop the products you have. Software companies release updates constantly, take in user feedback, correct errors, fine tune their stuff, why shouldn't pedal companies?

This is the first time I've been disappointed w CBA.
V1 to V2 was important for the dipswitch placement alone--def justified there.
RKM had added delay time which is quite important for some so it seemed sensible.
But the WV mkii is effing great ...so this feels like giving in to the whiners about the "too dark" bullshit.
Mkii getting discontinued for this is a feel bad.
And after discontinuing Spectre, it would've been cool to be introduced something new to take its place.

I understand listening to consumer feedback in order to make improvements as it will help business...but, I think at a certain point, a builder can get too bogged down with that.
With that said, I'm sure Joel has some sweet shit in the works...

I got a MKII in a MKI colourway from Joel last year, it's lovely.

Shit I still flog my original warped viny #24, I thought it was perfect from day one. I'm glad he's moving on to bigger and better things, dude works incredibly hard with such an incredibly unique product line, and if that means he needs to streamline a little bit to make things more commercially viable than so be it, I wish him all the best.
I can t wait to see what the future holds.

I love the way this sounds. 100% better than the previous version imo. I tire of random noise from pedals. It’s nice to hear something lush and useful.

I think the new one sounds good and I'd love to check it out, but I don't think I'll pick one up just because I really don't like chorus. I've said it a bunch of times, but my MkII did a wonderfully gorgeous thing I like to use (very slow, sheeny sort of thing maybe reminiscent of a 12 string), but I just didn't find myself justifying it/taking advantage of all it had to offer.
I looooove the Spectre, and the RKM as well, both of which currently get a lot of use on my board. I'm psyched to see if he does a MkII of the Brothers eventually, because as much as I wanted to like that one, there were just too many weird things I couldn't get over.
I'll agree with many that he's done a lot of amazing stuff and I don't necessarily expect him to keep delivering one revolutionary-ish thing after another, but I somehow think there's plenty of awesome shit to come. And as for the digitally controlled analog reverb comment, Chank—I know he'd have to break his style and go full digi, but I bet he could do some very cool stuff with a verb.

Pretty much this. That's the "Chase Bliss" pedal I've been most interested in lately, but I'm not gonna pay a lot for that muffler.
So, please, Joel, for the love of some Amazonian deity and/or spirit animal.

And non-hand painted so I can maybe swing one. I would have sold shit or a kidney to pay for it if I had seen the acid etched ones before they were long gone. It was enough less for me to try to make it work.
Oh, and more Abracadabra fuzzy stuff. I'd love to see a weird version of the Brothers that has outsider sounds closer to Peter's HEQ1 but with CBA functionality (preset storage, MIDI, expression).

I don't dig Muff clones, so I don't think much about those builders at all.
I dunno, maybe this one can get some of the dark and gooey stuff of the MK I and II with the tone knob down. Hiss isn't something I would really miss. The lag control should make it a hell of a lot more flexible than the old versions, and should make it work better in more situations for most users, especially with presets/Faves--longer delay times tend play better with dirt.

Here's the full text of the Black Friday email from Joel, fwiw:
chaseblissaudio wrote:Onwards. Ok so as of today we are discontinuing Spectre. We announced it 2 years ago on Black Friday and I think it's safe to say it's been our most polarizing pedal. For that reason I'm, of course, very proud of it but pride doesn't always translate to sales and with the way we are making them (through-hole assembly, lots of parts, lots of calibration time, etc. etc.) it's just not really feasible for us to keep making them at this price point and $349 is already hella expensive for a flanger. We'd also get a lot of complaints from dealers about them because people would return them due to the noise (before the 'blue knob mod') and dealers HATE that shit. Well, people still returned them sometimes after the blue knob mod because they said the whale noises were too loud and prevalent. They wanted a flanger not a whale in a pedal (for some reason... maybe because it said flanger on the box). Anyway, you get the idea. I mean, I think they are amazing and groundbreaking but I'm just one man. Just one guy. So not surprisingly, I think it's a real special pedal and I'm sad to see it go... I won't rule out a mk2 version sometime in the future but IF that happens (and that's a big IF) it'll be at least a year (probably 2) away from now. I mean, it's a "flanger" for one thing. I put "flanger" in quotes because it doesn't really sound like a flanger in most settings, and most people don't buy flangers in the first place. Flangers gonna Flange, though. There's no way around that.
While we only have about 3 of our stock, blue knob Spectres left on the shelves and you can get those for the normal 15% off... but we also have some Spectre B STOCK which I will explain here next.
This goes back a couple years. I thought I had the "final" design for Spectre done and ready to go so we ordered a small batch of PCBs and our lead tech Zack started soldering and building them up. As this was happening I was in Toronto doing some video work with Knobs (of YouTube fame) and I set one of these Spectres on a warm tube amp for a couple hours and when we played through it afterwards we realized the regeneration knob wasn't as potent. After it cooled down it worked normally again. Later when I was back home on a cold Minnesotan night I left the pedal in my car and after playing it the next day I found the regen knob to be extra sensitive. After some more sleuthing we found that the regeneration control was just extra sensitive to temperature. I made a PCB revision that added some extra circuitry on the regen control to make it more stable and agreeable and that became the production version.
But now we have like 30 of these old boards that can't be modded. They are original Spectres, you know, the pleasantly noisy variety. Hmmm what to do with these boards that have been built up, but can't be sold to dealers? Well how's about we get Dropping Acid Pedal Etching to make us some enclosures for them and sell them to you guys for $179 (pre discount price) ... this reflects a price actually less than it cost us to make these pedals in the first place which is kind of insane. As luck would have it, you can hear exactly how these sound because our old friend Knobs used one in his initial demo below... way long time ago. So there you have it, a chance to get some Chase Bliss pedals at a crazy low cost (just be wary of the regen control if you leave it in a freezing car overnight). I hope this is clear by now but you can also use the 'BLISS' discount coupon with these pedals. Ok that's it. Thanks for reading.
The sale info was moot about an hour past Joel sending this out, as it all is now, so I'm bummed I waited so long to jump on a Spectre (any of 'em!), but especially this version.
