That does lose points for switch quality and not having a just looper version imo

Price point on both.

When the thing came out, nobody would have shelled out that $$ for just a looper enough to sell, and standalone wouldn't have been any smaller or cheaper.

I'll stand by the switches, it would really only cost about $20 more to manufacture with nice carling switches with no more development overhead. The looper does come straight from another way to use the memory for the delays though, so you definitely have a point there.

Also the Echo Park sounded great.

Then add on markup, etc. and it would have been a $300 pedal when $300 was real money.

It was already blisteringly expensive for what it was at the time.

I wanna hate on them for not making the pedal I want though...

Nah you're right though. It's just a little frustrating. I wonder if someone else carries Dave Knudson's board for him...

Getting angry at mass market company for not making personalized product does not compute!

If you want custom, there are dozens of folks who will make it or mod it to your specs.

Can get a custom digital pedal worked up (and could when the DL4 came out), but....add a zero or more to the cost.

That and "replaceable anywhere" are why I'd have stuck with off-the-shelf stuff if I was still gigging (and bought multiple backups for everything that was vintage or old or vaguely custom).

M5/M9 gets a lot of praise, and the things I've heard from it sounds good. Both the echo park and the verbzilla are good stuff too. Also didn't they make a looper in the -4 series? Is it way worse than the looper on the dl-4?

Yeah. They managed to take the perfect live looper and made it into a boring stupid looper.

Why doesn't every line 6 product have an insane mode?

I still lol when I think of one of my old buds... he was super into shitty metal tones, and his live rig was a POD into a 1000 watt PA

Of course you can't really overstate Line6's hugeness in the history of modeling, whether or not you actually like the technology. And it's not like there weren't some good records made with the POD.

I'm glad to see that there's finally a Line 6 apologists' thread on ILF.
My favourite thing about the Spider is the reaction from salespeople in GC or local music shops when I play on them.
Most of the time they get so confused by the sounds of jazz chords through unacceptable levels of distortion that they insist on adding some shitty effect to the mix to really convince me not to buy one.
