I play an active bass - I don't seem to have any problems with pedals.

Here's the things I have that are PLL-ish:

- Dimehead PLL (obviously)
- Bananana Nirvanana (closest sounding I have to the Dimehead, but not as heavy, but this has a sequencer)
- Infanem Second Voice v1
- Arcadiator (pretty close to 2nd Voice in a couple of settings)
- ss/bs blargg-o-tron-o-tron (doesn't have the lower octave options)

I wouldn't put the Bit Commander in the PLL category - it sounds great, but it lacks the crazy (which is the + about it, very controllable).

The Nirvanana is the only one I have that has that dying note thing like the PLL.

I've played active bass for 20 years now. I dig passive too, but I just like the extra growl from actives. My preference is passive/active, but until I have the money to pay Michael Tobias to switch my MTD to both, I'm stuck with just active.

The other two I would recommend (don't have them though) would be the Mantic Flex Pro, which sounds a lot like the PLL from the demos I've heard, and the MiniArk that gyrgyx linked.

Get a "buffer buster" type circuit on your board.

I play a passive bass but my looper buffers the outputs, I just put the pedals that prefer a high impedance (fuzzes typically) signal after a buffer buster.

Now I also used to have a G&L that was loud as fuck even in passive mode, like louder than fuck. It caused problems with some pedals, even though I loved the feel, look, and sound of that bass, I had to let it go because pedals are so important to me.

I recall the wildly unsubstantiated rumor that the miniark was considered by Schumann to be the complete fulfillment of his pll dream, and felt he had been ripped off. This caused the brief scuttle from the schumann camp a few years back with an internet toady as the frontman. As if there is any REAL money in pedals.

Possibly. I might have been high, too, because I don't remember that twist on the reappearance.

I want the Mantic Pro so bad. I'm going to make that a priority. It's such an awesome pedal!

Bit commander is an octave divider and not a PLL, which is why it sounds and behaves differently.

Don't know about the OP, but impo active humbuckers in the right bass guitar give you the thickest most punchy agressive tone possible. That's mostly based on my experience with stingrays and my alembic-esque copy. I'm also a fender fanboi though, but since I depend I depend more on my bass than on my fuzz peds when I'm not playing 6 strings, I prefer playing an active bass
