Really, any half decent set of delay/reverb/overdrive/fuzz/modulation will be ok unless the guy really wants to emulate a very specific sound.

Out of curiosity, why?

All the presets sounded great. The menu-diving was over my head, to be honest. And then it took some kind of wack non-standard power supply. Then, after a couple days of trying to make it work, it started making a high-pitched signal that I was unable to troubleshoot my way out of so I just sent it back. I realize that this is not everybody's experience with the ms70-cdr, but from my perspective? Fuck that pedal.

If I were going to do this, pedals only, after Resincum's demo, it'd be.

Digiverb->whatever dirt, i'd go rat or boss->DD-500->DOD chorus

If the DD-500 broke the bank

digiverb->rat->digidelay->dod digital delay/sampler->dod/digitech/boss chorus

Expand from there, but the first sample should be $350-400, second should be $250 or less? Add a tremolo, or vibrato, or more dirt over time. That is how I would do it, but there is a good chance a guitarist might have a vibrato artm on their guitar, or a tremolo on the amp.

Or go Yamaha FX500->dirt->digitech or boss rack delay->digitech multi-chorus for less than $200


So many ways to do this, it is all very subjective.

word. at the very least it's the best place to start to work on your technique, because if you can't gaze with that then there's something seriously wrong.

there are so many different options for this, really. you don't need every type of effect, fuzz can be cool and distortion can be cool but maybe you don't need both, same with chorus and trem, delay and reverb, etc..
other cheap pedals which i think are cool for 'gaze: muza fd900, boss tr-2, ibanez de7, old japanese chorus/flanger pedals, noise ensemble, DOD death metal (if you want lots of gain and feedback for heavygaze..)

The EHX Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai is very good for Shoegaze. One of the Zoom Multistomps would provide a lot of options and could cover most territory but they probably aren't ideal for live use. I think most Shoegaze guitarists would like access to a wide range of distortion and fuzz pedals.

The people in Diiv seem to favour the Behringer DR400 Digital Reverb/Delay. The Behringer SF-300 (Boss Hyper Fuzz clone) and Behringer HM-300 (Boss HM-2 clone) are good value too. I actually think it would be possible to produce some convincing Shoegaze sounds with that combination of inexpensive plastic pedals and it would only cost about £60 or so.

digiverb if reverse reverb is wanted, otherwise RV-3 is a really good choice. I like modulated delays for shoegaze, but the boss PS-2 is pretty much the slowdive pedal. Ibanez DE7 would also do delay good. Algal bloom is now my favorite fuzz for the string clarity, which I think is quite essential when putting fuzz after reverb, and Algal blooms aren't that expensive (especially used). I like pitch shifting stuff for cutesy melody lines so personaally I'd do a PS-3 or something too but I guess that's personal
