Thats funny i always considered ricochet their most "listenable" early work.

The sorceror (I'm not looking up how to spell that propertly) soundtrack is REALLY REALLY REALLY FUCKING GOOD too. And 'love on a real train' from the Risky Business soundtrack is god tier Tangerine Dream. Apart from that I like Alpha Centauri and Phaedra a lot.

Phaedra, Rubycon and Stratosfear are my favourites. Love Ricochet as well. Stoked on seeing the documentary. Tangerine Dream are sort of a reference point for me when it comes to cosmic synth awesomeness. SO GOOOOOOOOOOOD!

"Optical Race" as a recommendation?

I kinda like this album, but it's sooo commercial '80s. The tracks "Mothers Of Rain", "Twin Soul Tribe" and "Sun Gate" have their magical moments, though.
But overall the Froese/Haslinger phase is one of the weakest IMO. When Chris Franke left TD the innovating and remarkable stuff was over. Or maybe it was just the time of synthesizers with tons of factory presets that Edgar liked that killed the TD magic. "Phaedra" was pure experimenting with the big Moog synthesizer and they recorded hours of Franke's patching and playing and cut it together as the album we know. Later it was like "we have to record two hours of music each day for television" and you can hear it. The passion for new sounds was over and replaced by quick and instant digital sounds.
