I mean if you like that the Jack White discog in general is probably worth a listen. Lots of nice noises in a straightforward context there.

I was listening to Embryonic by Flaming Lips earlier today, and there are loads of weird, filtery fuzz all over that record.

Actually though I swear by Hit to Death through Zaireeka so there's like four really great albums in there.

I do love their old stuff as well. And their mid-period stuff. And most of their new stuff. They're a pretty great band. They fight aelins and doenst afried of anything. Feel free to be wrong on this one though, you've had a good streak.

I'd say the straightforward-ness is the least appealing part of it. The sounds are seriously incredible though. Nonetheless this is my favourite so far.

Been meaning to get into the Flaming Lips for ages too, but they're one of those bands with such an enormous back catalog it felt easier to just not bother! However, now I actually want something in particular out of it I will give it a try, starting with Embryonic

Soft Machine onward is 'experimental' music for the casecandy set.

Soft Bulletin is pop. Not particularly experimental. Sometimes I like pop, and the Soft Bulletin scratches that itch ever so good. Yoshimi expands on that. At War With the Mystics is sort of uninteresting. Then BAM Embryonic is right on point, and the Terror is pretty damn cool. The fwends-stuff is very hit and miss, but still sort of fun.
Also, don't you drag Soft Machine into this.

Crows An Wra, a spacey punk band from the UK, use a lot of effected, synthy guitar and such. A lot of h.o.g. obviously. Love their first LP, and there's a new one on the way.

I love that lips/Dave fridmann sound. Kicks ass.
A lot of the synthy guitar sounds they use are results of the Line 6 FM4 and Roland Funny cat.
Sidebar: I saw them live in January and they fucjing kicked ass. They were here for a special festival/art show in Tasmania so they played a concert in Melb as well and because they weren't like promoting anything in particular they just played all the hits/good shit.
The guitarist dude and Drozd had so many sounds going on between them it was amazing. Also the fattest and most well mixed bass synth I've ever heard in a busy live mix, but the sybthy guitars were A+ as well.
