(I'll keep my post in it's original form. I know he's "gone")

I was going to support you on the whole piracy thing,
but it seems you have lumped everyone together and are looking for a fight. The wording of yours posts have been quite hostile and seem counterproductive.

If some people had suggested we hunt down the harmonic percalator dude and buttfuck him in front his family and then string him up from a tree and gut him rectum to sternum it may have raised a few eyebrows and perhaps warranted a stern talking to, but all I saw were a few mindless threats of vandalism.

Devi gives us quite a bit of freedom here, a freedom most of us enjoy.
Are we suggesting PP and MM participate in thought control and take a more heavy handed approach in moderating? :idk:

Of course we all could just run away and have Devi delete our accounts any time we don't agree...
There are some that call me...morningstaru?

Honestly, people saying piracy is theft should get a punch in the face. That's not to say there can't be arguments against piracy on valid grounds, but theft implies something was TAKEN, cut rather than copied. So using "Theft" "Stole" in this context is weighted language trying to push the idea that it's still more or less the same thing.

I feel really bad for veteransdaypoppy now :(

Yeah, though there are some times when even I'll say moderation is warranted... a guy today in an IRC chan tore into me for being trans, making offeisve jokes about my trap penis, mommy can't pay for your surgery etc. and nobody did anything, it was almost surreal because I saw people get banned for much less. I talked to the admin in question and he was all WHOA WE CAN'T TOUCH THIS GUY. At the time, he didn't even give him a verbal warning or a "Dude that's not cool".

I still feel scarred from it now :| Though it only happened a few hours ago. I've had bad luck with IRC today, I got K-Lined elsewhere for posting 5 lines of IRC art in a channel -_-. And of course the IRCOps in question are all completely irrational dicks.

Yeah. It'll be very interesting to see what happens to ILF as more people get into heated conversations. On one hand I like the idea of a completely unmoderated forum, on the other hand 4chan. :erm:

4chan isn't really unmoderated though, just extremely difficult to moderate. I used to get random bans there a lot when I was on a shared/rotating IP. The moderation is mainly to try and control spam and CP of course, but generally they clamp down on the Encyclopedia Dramatica style stuff too.

/toy/ is mostly unmoderated though, which sucks.

It's all about doing whatever is the most logical at the time. People tend to reason backwards from having tools to warn, ban, suspend, etc. available which is why you get so much corruption online. Instead when something's up, it should be looked at from all angles.

I used to run a forum before. We had no official rules and I only ever had to ban someone once. Turned out to be a bad idea though, so I reversed it. But at least I considered myself fallible enough to do that.

I replied to that post also, but I eventually I deleted it.

Really, you'd think most people would be used to internet forums by now. You can't all bent outta shape.

I think we have a pretty nice community, but we're still a community. There is a specific group dynamic. Anyone coming in who challenges the group dynamic will have to accept it or help build it. When you first start out, it's probably not a good idea to start shitting on existing/established community members.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

that dude quoted me with throwing bricks through windows.

Personally, i would never, i am far too reserved to do anything of that caliber to some asshole that is getting greedy with a name.

True, piracy is theft. I will say it, it's theft. But fuck man, i pirate to try things out. I don't pirate programs, and i've only ever cracked Age Of Empires, and i don't even have that anymore. I pirate music to test it out. If i don't like it, i may keep it on my computer because i might eventually like it. If i REALLY like it, i'll go see the band, buy the merch, and ultimately the records. I personally support music piracy. I make music. When my EP is finished i'm posting it up here on this board for anyone who might take an interest. I downloaded the Space Cadet stuff, and i thought it was pretty cool, if Space Cadet were to come around, i'd pay money to see it. It's how it goes. Obvy, that wasn't piracy, but you get my point...

Basically the Music Industry is crumbling because of piracy. I'm glad to see it crumble. I'm so fucking glad. I major in Music Industry at drexel and i want to see it crash and burn... The music industry is a bunch of greedy fucks trying to make a buck. I play in bands, and i wear the suit, and in a suit i feel like a hack. I make money off of other peoples art. Fuck that. I'm still young and i still do things as acts of passion, not for money. I am fine with it. People can steal my music.. i'm sure some of them will show up to my gigs. I downloaded the Fleeting Joys, and Ceremony. I will go see there bands and buy there merch when they come around. Quote me. I've recorded 5 or 6 records in the past 6 months for free, because i love to do it. I'm not good enough to charge.. but i'm fucking better than the dudes in suburbs charging 40$ an hour to use their Tascam digital bullshits.

Fuck that dude saying protools is bullshit. Protools is infact bullshit  , but it's the MI standard, and if you wanna look professional, you use a commonly known name.

Logic 8 is amazing. It's my favourite. I don't own it yet, because i can't afford it. It's a shame. I can't buy Cubase, but it's another program i dream to use. Which brings me to my next point.

The reason people pirate things is because the price of them is not worth it, especially when you need to buy an upgrade every two years. I would KILL, let me repeat, KILL, to fucking use logic 8. I could perhaps start charging bands, and then get it. But i'll start charging when i graduate school, and it's what i need to do. you live you learn. I know for a fact companies who create software look to make a KILLING, not a LIVING. I'm sorry you're a pawn in their scheme, but fuck, they were good businessmen, and you're still going to get paid by THEM in the end. I've been in hungary for the past few days. EVERYBODY AROUND THE WORLD used to STEAL windows.. FOR YEARS. Bill gates STOLE windows from the macintosh's original design. Now the world is windows based because after those first few, windows upped the security, so it became more and more difficult to pirate. So now that windows is the most well known (and yes, it was better than mac for years, not anymore) everybody has to buy it. Vista? what the fuck. windows can't do vista 2.1 because nobody in hungary wants vista. They had to make Windows 7.

Take from this what you will. it's my feelings.

I'm sorry people download that dudes software. Make it better in the security department. It's fucking HARD to hack mac programs. If you search the torrent pools, for a program you'll be LUCKY to find it for mac. so, shit.

Plus, Guitar Amp II fucking blows. It's called an sm57 or a 421, and you can physically steal it. It's possible, and i won't stop you from doing it. But it's worth every penny.

If you're using guitar amp II you probably arent making music worth listening to anyway. Stock programs with generic sounds don't excite my earbuds.

a real 1960 tweed bassman with the right mic and tasteful effects to create a sound pallateable to you, is how to do it. There is no substitute.

Plus if you professionally, you don't download your shit.

Remember system of a down? steal this cd. when mines done, please take it. I'm fed up with all of this free vs. theft shit. fuck it. if you have a problem with it, do something about it, not condescend people on a forum about fuzz pedals. I mean, who's REALLY immature?

It's your choice.

It's a shame the open source movement has not gotten involved with music. In general there's very little in the way of music creation software for Linux, which is the problem.

What you do have is your OpenMPT, which is good, but not amazing.

The thing is that it would be fairly simple to modify OpenMPT to be a fuctional DAW if you knew how. The tracker interface is very good for quickly enterring music. I'm unsure but I think it already has VST and Soundfont support, all you need to add is streaming audio. I don't see any reason you can't have "vertically" streaming audio. Also, I would set the default volume/velocity for notes to something liek 45 instead of 64, to make dynamics much easier.

Are there any people who are any good at programming here?

http://notesfromtheshack.wordpress.com/ ... -round-up/

Here's some currently Open Source DAWs. The thing about Open Source is that it often has a similar level of quality to professional products since so many people work on it.

we're discussing the piracy of software. basically when you take software that is expensive and crack it so that you can use the software without paying for it.

Oh, well my adobe photoshop and audition programs are stolen, as well as fruity loops. I have bought programs though too..... like Cakewalk.

I'm not sure what stance I'd take. I honestly don't care, but I understand what the fuss is about.

For referene these were the comments that were made, deemed acceptable, and now they've revised to rules heavily tilted towards people who outrage at this(unbelievable), and I ended up suspended for a few days for contesting the rules.
