I disagree on every point but the electronics. Ive played jap squiers from the 80s that blow away every mim ive ever laid my hands on and alot of the american. Mim shit on the otherhand is almost always overpriced, clunky, and in need of new everything. Squier beats mim every single day in my book.
I agree. I have never played a mim that I thought was better then any squire.

And let's be fair, $1k is not your normal, typical MIM, although that day will come. I'm just glad to see they're putting out what the peoples allegedly wanted: matching HS, binding, etc.
My Classic Player HH is a fine, fine, fine guitar. The moved trem rocks and is dead, stupid stable. I even like the buckers.
It's my main synth guitar.
It's been a few years since I've played a MIJ (I think 2006 was the last time I bought one) but I've had a few and played a lot more and every single one of them has been awesome, as good and often better than the MIA. Electronics have never meant that much to me since I change them all anyways.

Now for head-bender, I have a couple MIM Squiers too. Only thing cheaped out on those was cosmetics
yah i mean... if you want to bitch, you can always take a look at the fretboard, mine is far from perfect...
nothing that would bother me or made it any hard to play tho

definitely better than some of the Fender CPs i've played (pretty much any of them haha)
while we're talking about MIJ... the Special Edition HH Jaguar which is MIJ is streets ahead the MIM CPs and is just a wonderful guitar

I had the Classic Player Jazzmaster and it was fucking slick. Granted it was set up by the store I bought it from, but it played extremely well and sounded excellent too. Honestly, why would you give a fuck where a guitar is made? If you find one that is well put together and is comfortable then buy it. I don't give two shits if it was made in fucking Iceland, play what feels good.
Maybe my brain is in the wrong context for this discussion right now but.... I mean my CIJ Mustang, its pretty neat and fun and has mods and all that. We geek out over it. But you know what every other jackass will say about it? "Cool color man." One time somebody at a gig asked me if my SG was made in the USA... Who the fuck cares? You gonna buy it from me or something?
/rant
EDIT: I know they're not $1000 but my MIM Tele is one of many guitars to stick with me over the past six years. Any imperfections are from me throwing it on the ground when I was 17-19 years old. And it still plays like a fucking champ.

Good guitars are all around for all kinds of monies, great and small. Fancy ones, cheap ones, middle ones. I feel like they call out to me from their homes, and sometimes they call out strong enough to get the cash dollars. Sometimes they don't. No law for me, just a feeling. (I'm a hippy.)

i've had my Jazzmaster longer than I've had a mustache
so that's a goddamn something good to remember it bye... obviously you're right
the problem for me is not that they're charging 1k for MIM as much as they have the nerve to charge sometimes very large sums for subpar guitars (in perspective to the price)

Every decade or so, Fender adjusts its pricing upward.
So when the "deals" come and you can't believe stuff is so cheap, the price increase is coming.
The release of the Blacktops (at price points unheard of for what they were), the MIC Fenders, and the Squier stuff all pointed at what was coming first: the shift in price on the higher-end American-made non-CS stuff. The Mexican stuff was to follow - it's pretty obvious what the future pricing tier will be: Bottom-end Squier stuff, midrange Squier/low end MIC or wherever Fenders (like the Modern Players), high-end Squiers/lower end MIMs, the rest of the MIM midgrades, the lowest end USA stuff/high end MIM, and the USA stuffs.
MIJ stuff will filter in at occasional levels as filler, but will depend hugely on dollar/yen relationship and what Fender can't/won't make in Mexico (which these days, well, anything goes after seeing the VIs and Mustangs etc finally showing up there).
I'm actually pleased with this - it's more options on more cool shit than ever before.
And again, it's $100 extra for blocks and the matching HS that everybody cried out was missing - but they didn't force it on everybody. This is a special run.
