Me too. I hate pretty much everything about Strats.
If you're not wanting divebomb capabilities and you prefer low maintainence, the standard Jazzy term is impossible to beat.

yeah, i know about yours and that's the bomb

and of course there was a few CS strats I absolutely loved - and even though they were relic and i don't like relic, they were just spectacular guitars AND aesthetically pleasing
thing is, i'd take relic over fancy woods any day... because fancy woods are VERY controversial I'd say and they just don't work on every guitar. I, for one, can appreciate them on PRS or Gibson guitars... but it sort of defies what fender is about for me
especially when it comes to bookmatching a maple top on an OFFSET guitar... do you see the irony as well?

Yeah, I totally agree with your point and the irony is truly hilarious!
Bottom line tho, some blues lawyer probably decided to add to his PRS collection and hit up Fender to get the fancy wood finish. If they can sell it, you know they'll build it. I'm not saying they should build it tho haha.

for a lot of people flamed/quilted maple MEANS "high quality" in the same way burled wood trim and a leather steering wheel cover used to say "luxury car." "well, flamed maple means Old Les Paul, and Old Les Paul is good, ergo flamed top on a Tele = posh." i actually LIKE quilt maple in a tasteful application, but at this point it seems so common that it's defeating the effect. when you can get a PRS SE with a (veneered) quilted top, it's lost all meaning and become a 10-year-old white kid wearing a Public Enemy shirt.

I agree with you in general though, I think fancy flamed/quilted stuff looks crap 90% of the time, just on
this guitar with that pickguard is deliciously wrong and it's awesome.

it looks much better in the shot that appears at the top of the product page, where you get more of a sense of shape and depth. my big question: WTF is Okoume, the wood that makes up the back of the body?
