http://www.fyldeguitars.com/mandolins.htmland i agree that straying from the gear a bit makes it more real and interesting. cheers!
Thanks, that's a wonderful link! I am indeed a Talisker lover, in fact I am a lover of Islay style whisky in general. Right now I have a bottle of Ardbeg that I'm working through.

when i was at that main drag place
for the stomphox exhibit thing
they had a couple of old ls6 there
one was silver with a black star
painted on the headstock
it was like a relic from the subpop 90s
i really liked the size and feel
but finding a cheap one is real tough
and those epi specials are just bogus
i really hope that there ends up bein a midgrade version
as far as les pauls go
i like the flat top ones
but theres not many quality/affordable options
hopefully these dont sell
and go into a bargain bin somewhere
that i just happen to stumble upon
when i have a pocket full of cash
wishfull thinking

I was helping a good friend a few months ago look for an electric guitar in a les paul type style. He ended up with a 73' or 74' L6-S that was in great shape in body/neck but had garbage pickups in there with a lot of electronic mess (a switch that did nothing, etc). I think he paid about $425-450 for it and then another $200+ for the 490/498 replacement pickups, rewiring, etc. it plays pretty damn nice now:
I would pay would HE paid for one, but not $1700. It is definitely brighter than a LP

Buy used and be happy they're making a wide variety of shit is how I see it. Prices go up, that's just how these things work.
I absolutely love my Gibson. I also love my Fender.
Both were costly (def more than the originals ran for decades ago of course) but they're also incredibly unique and play so very well. I'm actually glad they offer some oddball shit cuz it happened to be exactly what I was after.

I think what dommy is tryna say is that gibson had the opportunity to just reish the original and blew it. Look at that headstock...ick. They did the same with the RD bass. And the sg jr. I mean they do some hot shit, new sgs are fire, that grace potter v is nice, but when they "reissue" vintage shit and get it all wrong i just scratch my head. Its like the pawn shop bass vi....why did they have to put the stupid humbucker in the bridge?????

I just found it funny that they reissue a guitar at a price that's more than the original is going for. That's all, really.
But, I do hate it when they change shit up on older models. Especially cosmetically.

I like to think that whenever Gibson reissues something, they turn it into a game where they got someone to try and list off the specs from memory. That's produced and they wait for us to check their work.

I used to own an L6-S and thought it was a great guitar except for the wiring. It was a fucking rats nest and I got tired of fucking with it, so I sold it. I miss that guitar, but not enough to pay $1700 for one.
