We were talking about this in my "social Problems" class. I used the beating example as well.

It should've been legalized ages ago. Taxes alone could fix the deficeit, I've read somewhere...
I've never smoked anything.

I've heard of people on the wrong drugs kicking their stepdaughter in the face and then cutting her head off and hiding it in the woods...
Sorry...

Pot causes brain damage, so that's a con. A lot of research says otherwise, but I recently did a quick Google search to find out who they test in most studies, and it's people that use once a week or less. Studies that used people like everyone I know that uses pot (every day) show brain damage. Not to mention hemp plants absorb mercury, which once absorbed they store in their leaves. Quickest way to die from mercury poisoning is inhalation of fumes, so make sure you know where you stuff is grown and research whether the place has a history of haberdashery of battery manufacture, among other things.
One study I heard about on the radio on my way to work says that most people that used pot in the 60s have started to develop throat cancer in recent years, so the long term effects may be much worse than any short term ones.

So through regulation, we can stop once a day.
And, with govt help, we can NOT have Mecury in the plants.

i'm not into regulating human behavour unless it imposes on others: like driving under the influence of any drug. or abusing others mentally or sexually.
i don't care what anyone does for relaxation and even though i don't drink and have been around too many drunks in my life, i would never judge someone because they choose to drink, take mushrooms or whatever. something about..."until you've walked a mile in their shoes".
i feel weed should be legalized or decriminalized simply for the tax money that our country needs, and the money it would bring the farmers of our country, who need an easy crop to grow ...which would in turn, help the economy.
IMO, for every pothead out there that is lazy and obnoxious, there's a redneck that is just as lazy, more obnoxious and doesn't smoke. it's not the weed that makes people become idiots, people with limited education raise their kids to be idiots.
artists have been expanding their minds for years with great success and with great failure. if i started a tally of my favorite artists, i'd prob end up with a list of famous drug addicts. (hendrix, cobain, lou reed come to mind) some of which stopped being valid once they cleaned up. (alice cooper pops into my head).
i went through a quick xtcy phase in the early 90's and my life greatly benefitted from it. very glad i did it and not at all tempted to do it again.
but whatever....jocks have their steroids...and rather they are on them or not, i'd prob not get along with a jock due to me not knowing what a football bat is used for. however that's just life and if we all were the same it would be a bore.
live and let live. personal choice should still be personal and nothing to be judged on. expanding your mind is an age old temptation and one that's not going away.

PumpkinPieces wrote:I've never smoked anything, but I still think legalizing marijuana is an alright idea. I hate weed in some ways though. At a concert these kids were really digging us, and in between songs they were like "where do you get your weed?!!" As if I need weed to have fucking talent.
Its just everytime in high school, if I talked to a stoner, they had this attitude. It was super condescending, as if I couldn't comprehend what drugs did for them. Yet everyone thought I was a stoner, and people that knew I wasn't... wanted to get me high. I just got this uber strong feeling that if I lit up, I'd have become one of those kids.
I could discuss all day long.... so I'll stop here.
Dude, you said a mouthful there!!!! I was a hardcore drug user in highschool. I wouldn't even hang out with people who didn't use(they had nothing to offer me nor could I hold a conversation with someone who didn't since all I though and talked about was getting high and were to get stuff). After having faced all the consequences of all that(flunking out to name one) I decided it might be best to leave all of it alone and pursue music full time(almost every waking moment). Obviously not the best field of work to be in if you'd rather not get high.
Now, I fully realize that not everyone who uses is like me, and that some people do in the same since that some people eat ice cream every now and then. But I'll be damned if the last 40 times I was around someone who got high and asked me if I did didn't get all defensive about getting high or atleast make some kind of big deal about it.
I went to a noise show not too long ago where everyone there was lighting up...which is fine by me as long as I don't get a contact high. When they offered me some...it became this huge ordeal. One guy kept saying "man....look at this guy....he digs this shit(noise/noise rock) and he doesn't even have to get loaded...far out!!!"....Then you also have the situations where I was offered,I declined, then the person/s has to spend an hour talking about how they only do it on the weekends,at parties,funerals...etc.. and how thats the only particular drug they do....yadayadayada. Like I am there fucking parent or something. If I know that they are high enough sometimes I will just tell them to shut the fuck up in a very "just kidding, but not really" kind of way. Now I know how it must of felt like for people who dealt with me back in highschool.
Its just really bizarre to me....kind of like how nowadays not having a tattoo (which I have none) is like the new "having a tattoo".... I don't even want to get into people assuming that I am a stoner(in which case I don't really do much to help that image with my hair down to my ass and my paisley shirts). The dilemma almost reminds me of the whole "gay/straight" thing. Like how people are identified by how they like to fuck. If we are going to get that technical...why not go all the way? Like "oh, I'm an assfucker", or" I heard he's a pussy licker" , or " she's a missionary with socks on only fucker.." geeeeeeezzzzzzz..when I think of the human race I think of those couch pillows that say "god bless this mess"...only there is no god and the mess actually results in violence and murder.

Haha, that kind of stuff makes me laugh.
I talked with this guy that was higher than a kite for an hour at a party once, we talked about music and philosophy just fine, we both understood eachother. Heck we even turned each other on to Modest Mouse and Smashing Pumpkins. It was then i concluded I don't
need drugs. I'm perfectly fine with someone using hallucinogens or marijuana around me though. Like sir elwood said, "live and let live." In my perspective as a musician I want to be credited for my songs, not some drug. I can release my emotions and what I feel though music, writing and conversation just fine sober. If it isn't broke don't fix it.

exactly... Its just sad when people romanticize something like that(like I once did) when there really is nothing to romanticize. I could say that I am equally guilty as I romanticize the fuck out of music and musicians but the difference seems to come with that fact that there is some form of artistry ,talent, love, and dedication/self sacrifice that is involved..whereas thinking of things in this "post kurt cobain/faux hippy" way where the drugs they were taking is as important as everything else they did is very short sighted. I guess what I am trying to say is it is silly when someone basis their identity on such a thing...
