i think the BAT revelation is really good at this. also, there was a dude who posted over at hcfx who built a pedal called the jacob under the name vid fx. it's like a super muff with a shitload of controls. i got to try one out and that thing was really amazing. one of my favorite muffs i've tried. great clarity and mids for a fuzz.

the shiva, weirdly, at certain settings is pretty clear with open chords.

I just tried out a setup with a bubble font Russian on a low gain setting filtered through/boosted by a Timmy. I think I found what I was looking for. Still massive with a nice fuzzy bite but also pretty clear. Gonna try out a friend's TAMF this weekend.

You know, I actually think that my EHX Russian Big Muff (late 90s, the black one with the input/output the wrong way around) has pretty goo chord clarity. I mean, probably not going to be great on a Dim9 or something, but it's great on big open major and minor chords.
