Jepp.
I liked the Pyramid a lot more. The feel is right from the start good and the sound was a bit more my thing. I don't know the exact differences anymore. I did that "test" more than a year ago. I also checked out the D'Addario - but they were not in the same range as Thomastik and Pyramid.

Thanks. I've tried a set of the Pyramid 12-string flats, and liked them, but not yet a 6-string set.

I'll've to pick up a set next time I've to change strings.

I like nickel flats. I don't think I've tried D'Addario flats. I think they've only got 'em in chrome.

I do like D'Addario rounds though. Not my first choice (or even my second or third), but most shops seem to stock 'em. They're my go to strings if I can't find anything I actually want.

electric: .010-.046. i used to use Ernie Ball Regulars for ages, but lately have been going to GHS Boomers. i also have a stash of Gretsch Chet Atkins .010-.047 nickel roundwounds that come with a wound G and a plain G; i use them on my Dyna-ed Pro Jet and Telecaster. they have an unusually light B string (.010. .012, .017W/.018W), which makes for much better balance and separation on the upper strings. at various times i've used everything from .008s to Gibson Roto-sonics that went .013-.056 with a .026 wound G.

on the acoustics i prefer John Pearse light gauge. if i can't get those i like Martin bronze wound. i tune the 12-string to concert pitch, so i use the lightest strings i can find, which usually means Martins. i always have to replace the octave G...i don't know on what planet you can regularly tune an .010 to G above high E, but on Earth i have to use an .008. i used the Jerry Douglas signature strings on my dobro.

on the fretless Jazz Bass i use medium-gauge flatwounds for the thumpy acoustic-bass feel, with the heaviest low E i can find. most E strings are too light for my taste, and go BOIIIIIIING when i dig in. currently i'm using Rotosound flats, which are pretty zingy and growly when i turn the treble up and have a nice airy quality when i back down the tone knob. i still haven't found the perfect string, though...i'd try T-Is or Pyramids if i was working. at some point i'm going to get a short-scale bass and put nylon tape strings on and use that for the sub-sonic BOOM.

my big dislike is D'Addarios...i just don't care for them on any instrument. i used them a lot in the 80s because they were the only strings other than EBs that were available EVERYWHERE, but i'm not into that sparkly faux hi-fi sound at all and they go dead after about 20 hours.

I'm kind of surprised by the number of DR users here.

Usually I just roll with .10's from D'Addario or Ernie Ball. Preferably D'Addarios:

Grabbed a couple sets of these last time I bought strings for my Jazzmaster:

Probably going to shift to .11's all around, maybe keep the JM with .12's.

For bass, I'm a fan of D'Addario medium Chromes or just plain ol' medium roundwounds. Nothing fancy.

Damn. I need to up my game! Awesome to see so many variations here. I'm the dude at the guitar store who's always just like, "I dunno, as long as they're 11's..."
