I mean how nice your guitar/bass collection is depends a lot more on how much you got in your wallet than any kind of creativity. While all these depend on you being able to buy shit, you can still make a kick-ass pedalboard for under $500 and you can make an awesome weird instrument for almost free if you're inventive enough.

I had reservations about these categories as well but others showed interest in having them over the single guitar categories so i put them up to give them a fair chance if thats what the people wanted. I also said that if we did do these you would be limited to one picture and what you can fit in there. There are a few members whose collections would take a page and a half to display everything, which is just too much from a logistical point of view for a poll.

It all depends on how far away you want to go to take that picture, right?

I would still rather have a single guitar/bass competition, because I could imagine people coming out of the closet with very cool stuff. Also it would mean you have to chose. And most of the higher priced instruments are less esteemed than a lot of the cheaper ones around these parts. After all we're not on some blues lawyer forum where you would have an endless parade of boutique Strats or vintage Paulas. Of course there will be a lot of Fender offsets in a guitar competition, but I am pretty sure that most or all of them are going to have something special. Mods, stickers, vintage flair, whatever. And i also think that there is going to be lots of variation in that competition too.
This kind of stuff is always about who can spend the most money in a way. Most of the votes went to either big and pricey or very odd and creative boards last year, but so what?

I think I prefer single instruments too, I reckon it'll make it more likely for one really out there weird instrument to win, which I figure is what this forum is all about.

This is exactly what i was thinking my friend. This is ILF!!! The most expensive guitar will probably get near no results while the squire affinity that has been modded to hell and back, is eight different colors with 3 different types of pickups in it would probably win. And people know that, I feel if they had to choose just one they are gonna choose their "gem" the one that speaks the most about them and their creativity, and I am alot more into that than staring at strats and LP's.

As far as last years winner, I feel Schnike's won because his board was the perfect combo of very odd and creative, and big and pricey. He did have some big money pedals on there, but thats not what made it shine, it was all the other pedals and the insanely genius signal routing. It appealed to all senses not just GAS inducing visual stimuli.

lately simple boards have been chubbin me up
im just as impressed by one row of 5
as i am with a pallet full o everything
maybe this yrs winner will be
just a single kick ass pedal
thats what makes this place cool
dont matter what it is
or what its for
as long as its workin for ya
i think one guitar/bass category too
let the lp$ and $trat$
go up against the
"great backups",poorcasters,and frankenwhatevers
it all comes down to which one your lookin at
when you reach for the tissues
im gonna go spitshine my sameicksco
aka "my collection"

With a set up like that, I think he already has. :D

Perhaps best boards for certain price ranges? Budget - Mid Level - Dentist Salary, etc.

Ancient Astronaught wrote:First up is categories, we've assembled a list of possible categories and want to see what people would like to enter in. The idea so far is to have more than just pedalboard categories, so we've expanded the list to cover numerous subjects. If we go this route each person would only be able to enter one category, and there would be no Fuzz Master General, just individual category winners.

I'm not a fan of the multiple board categories. Giving the n00bs their own is fine, but not a fan of overall, bass, guitar and noise. This is ILF, all we do is make noise. Besides we only had like 50(?) boards last year, doesn't really need to be spread too thin.

There should be a category for keys so Brian SS/BS/DFAS can wreck the competition, or allow participation in the full rig category at least.

I think this covers everything from inexpensive to expensive to unique to insane and gives everyone a chance to participate.

1. Full Gig Rig - Amp/Instrument/Pedal Board/Strap/Laptop/Fog machine - If you don't play out, post what you would use if you did
2. Pedal Board - 5 pedals or less (Tuners don't count)
3. Pedal Board - 6 pedals or more
4. Single Instrument - Guitar/Bass/Keys/Drums/Synth - Mostly stock or with minor modifications
5. DIY Creation - Guitar/Bass/Synth/Pedal/Time Machine/Expression Controlled Butt Plug/Noise Maker etc. - Shit you'd never find in a store

Only one entry per person. Demos encouraged.
