Could I use a germanium transistor? I'm not exactly sure what they do, but I've seen that they're a selling point for many fuzzes.

volume knobs require 3 more wires. Looking at the back of the knob when it is in the enclosure, far left goes to ground, middle lug of the pot goes to the switches output lug, and the last wire goes to the board's output. And I would stick to silicon for the bazz fuss, germanium are fussy and you've got polarity to worry about

Yeah, and they're more expensive. By A LOT!! Damn!
Is there a point of adding a tone knob, and how would I do that?
I'm thinking about using these:
