I always found Ampeq muddy...lacked the character and definition I like. So muddy, lack of definition, a bit overrated....kinda reminds me of EHX. Never really gelled with my Status at all, either. I love the mids...punchy definition Eden offers. I generally keep the EQ on my Status and Eden rig pretty flat but I get a ton of bass rattle from it. I guess it's all a matter of taste and what bass is being used. I kinda went bottom of the line Eden when I bought my Nemesis rig....have been pondering upgrading it....but I figured I might as well go all the way to the top with some Glockenklang, though.

There are different flavors of ampeg, I don't dig the scooped sound. You know me though, I use the one (well a slight change and they changed the model# but same amp) tube amp from Eden, famous for being ultra clean Hybrid amps. All tubes amp aren't muddy. My Eden has a great clean tone. There is just something heftier about how tube amps hit. We have had this on same discussion on SSvs toobz thread.
Glockenlang, super pristine though for sure super hi-fi. But my point is that hi-fi exist with tubes as well. Then you have the option to get the other tubey goodness.
If you are going Glock, why not just get a head. Freaking Eden cabs are top notch. Or sell your head and one of your cabs then start your Glock experience with the Head and one of the Eden cabs. I think a 2-10 combo is going to leave you hanging at some point.

I'm always hesitant to get a bass combo, due to my needs changing from day to day. I just prefer a modular set up, really.

I always wanted to try their tube amp but never have found one

But I totally agree with you

My mesa can do the hifi sound... and I don't use that channel

It's just not as clean and punchy. I don't know. I understand I'm on that extreme.....I just don't dig Ampeg sounds at all....haven't really heard one where I was like "oh, that was ampeg? That sounded good." I can dig Mesa but it's still a little to on the mudz side. For me. Again, I know I'm on the extreme with that.
I would totally go the modular route.....but fuck it would take me a year or so to save up for that. And the Glockenklang combo is the exact same head.

.......mmmmm........
Maybe I will....I suppose I could get it in pieces by starting off with a head and using my Eden cabs....it'll take me a lot longer but quality is worth it. Must resist my need for instant gratification.
Thanks for the wisdom, guys.

You can play a crappy bass and cheap pedals through a great amp and sound amazing.
A great bass and boutique pedals sounds like crap through a bad amp.
That said. Go with the amp.
As for the ELH remark, I’m offended that’s like saying a Ferrari is the Ford of sports cars.
I have played through Eden, Aguilar, Mesa and most of the other high end rigs, but for me an Ampeg, cranked just below breakup with the ultra high and low switches on is the sound.
I digress back on subject.
Get the amp.

When it comes to tube heads I vastly prefer Mesa/Boogie, Trace Elliot, and Orange to Ampeg, but there's no denying the Ampeg legacy throughout the years. Even though I currently loathe the company, a B-15 is still one of the Best. Amps. EVER.
But this thread is about Glockenklang right? Awesome amps. Buy one, buy three, who cares? I wouldn't even bother playing bass without a decent loud amp. Bad amps fucking suck, the best bass and pedals in the world don't mean shit without an amp that rocks your testicles or other sexual organs accordingly.

you can get away with playing with a crap guitar amp if you can still get a tone out of it; without a decent bass amp you might as well stay home.

Well.......
I went off the fucking deep end.....and now I have Mesa Strategy 400 and Mesa Strategy 500 Power Amps.....and now I'm just a really confused individual.
Most of me wants to just sell these things (I got them at a really good price), make a small profit, and go back to the smaller Glock rig idea.....and then the demon on my should is saying to buy a preamp, rack mount, and cabs to go with one of these bitches and blow up the fucking world. But really. I will NEVER need all this power. And there's probably some situations where we'll play an acoustic set and I'll want something a lot slimmer.
But I'm a man.
And this is power.
I don't know. Logic dictates I sell them and scale down.

If it's an
acoustic show what's the amp for?
And logic shmogic. If you want to keep an awesome rig, that's a logical reason to keep it right there.
