Man...the best thing Ovation ever did were their electrics. Sad that they got bought out and mostly moved overseas...doubt we're gonna see any resurgence. Just pumping their "classic" acoustics (mainly Celebrity) into the market. Bum. Mer.

The only thing that I don't like about the Breadwinner is how the Ovation headstock looks. I'd love a Breadwinner bass...

My PAL and I were looking through his Hit Paraders from the '70s at the neat black and white Electro-Harmonix ads... wherein you can buy a "Ram's Head" Big Muff for $49.99. And a Small Stone and a bunch of other cool shit.
Anyway, there is also an add for the Ovation Breadwinner, which is a really sweet looking guitar. Toss some P-90s in there and WHAT A TREAT. My favourite part was the perhaps overly-modest tagline: "Ovation Electric Guitars: They're Worth A Try!". Now THAT'S confidence.

I know Eastwood makes a replica of the Breadwinner... anyone ever played the real thing?

That thing looks hideous!

I have a breadwinner actually. Well, it's kind of a half breadwinner... something very very bad happened to the electronics and bridge so they have been swapped out to a more basic double humbucker config. The paintjob is pretty rough and the pickguard is hand cut... that said, sounds great.

From what little experience I've got, Ovations are - or at least used to be - really, really good instruments.

...something very bad must've happened to the V, too?

I had the idea of starting an ugly guitar collection awhile back. I have since backed off that idea... but I still have the ovation.

i thought they should have gone deep with the "Holey V" concept and put stained, leaded glass in the apertures with religious themes...they could have called it the "Holy V," or perhaps the "Clement V." no, the "Pius V."
