PLEASE NEVER EVER SAY SLAPPIN' DA BASS OR ANY VARIATION OF THAT EVER AGAIN. IT MAKES PEOPLE THAT PLAY BASS WANT TO STAB THEMSELVES IN THE LEFT TESTICLE AND DUMPSTER MURDER FUCK PAUL RUDD SO HARD HIS FAMILY FEELS IT UNTO THE NEXT SIX GENERATIONS.
*shudders*
........ and i usually dig on Mssr. Rudd.

I remember a natural T40 sitting in one of the shops around town. Needed a setup, and the electronics were kinda scratchy, but it sounded damn fine. Solid too. The guy wanted 499 for it though. Said it was "vintage gear". I never went back to that shop.

T40s sound great but goddamn do they weigh a ton. I'm not generally a pussy about such things, but fuck that shit.

the T40 isn't that aesthetically pleasing to me tbh.
the reviews seem flawless though.

Came into this thread to say EXACTLY THIS. NOTHING MAKES ME RAGE HARDER THAN WHEN SOMEONE FINDS OUT I PLAY BASS AND IMMEDIATELY SAYS "SLAPPA THE BASS". I ONCE SAID ID PUNCH THE NEXT PERSON WHO SAID THAT TO ME IN THE FACE. TWO WEEKS LATER I PUNCHED MY ROOMMATE IN THE FACE.

BOOM. headshot.
i can barely slap. i do it for the tone and because i'm lazy about crossing strigs if it's a buttload over and over. i'm so glad the digga digga raoid fire muted stuff is rarely used anymore. impressinlve and all.... but not very musical in an actual song.
plus, i'm jealous 'cause i'm right awful at slapping.

After reading your initial post, I immediately thought "Peavey T-40". But I understand if you don't like the look of the bass and they are heavy. Also, you need a special wrench to adjust the truss rod and without it you will have a bitch of a time setting the tension on the neck. I had a T-45 (the one pickup version) w/a maple neck and it played and sounded awesome, but setting it up was too much of a hassle, so I let it go.
If you want a super cheap bass that gets a ton of love on TB, you might want to look into the Gretsch Junior Jet bass. The older models go for under $200 USD used. It's a short scale bass (30"), but the older 2 pickup model's neck profile is 34".
