Even the really small mixer's would probably take up too much real estate but maybe if i can find a small line mixer but the one's i have seen don't usually have effects loops, i'm going to research this option a little more today, because if i could get a 2 channel one with effects loop i could then go ahead and do my clean / effected blend before it gets sent to the p.a. system, still have on/off control of my effects on my voice for each song, and as long as it has an xlr out keep my balanced out to make it easier on the soundguys. This just might work..... if i can find one ity bity enough......

if you do find one, please post it here.

No luck on mixers that would eb anywhere near small enough to put on a board, I think i'm going ot go one of two roads the first is to just bite the dust and try the tc helicon pedals, 2 is to use what i'm currently doing and using a xlr>1/4 mic cable, run the mic through the guitar pedals and then run it out a DI box i'm still not happy with control and tone of this option but I guess i will just have to start working on playing bigger clubs where i won't have this issue.

that xenyx 502 will work with a simple mod. see this IC http://www.ti.com/product/drv134
you would probably just run the main out L to the pedal and run the pedal back to input 3 (R) and use the output R into the 134 IC. your mic would need to be panned hard left for this to work. if you need an unbalanced out for a gig, you just flip a switch or use a separate switched tip TS jack for that. with some cutting and modding it can be bent. you might need any extra jacks to be on a breakout cable. you could also rehouse the whole mixer in a metal box with footswitches and stuff.

The question is really why do you want a balanced out and do you need balanced out. The shielding may be different in a mic cable but an unbalanced signal has the same losses on long runs.

yes but for a balanced signal you can get rid of much more of the induced noise at the next input since it is presumably differential, so when you add gain to boost it back up your not boosting the noise. for unbalanced you do not have this nice feature, you will boost the induced noise just as much as you boost the signal.

if there was no real advantage to balanced signals i dont think it would be used in any standard practice since the cables and hardware inherently cost more.
