Look for a SWR 750 - sounds great, heller loud (750 watts) and available in your price range. It's what I use all the time.

Another vote for the GK 700rb-II or a used 1001rb. Rock solid reliable (couldn't say that about my Hartke HA4000) for the time I had it. With my 700 and a Schroeder Mini 12R, I had a small rig that was louder than most folks' 4x10 rigs.

I rarely play bass, but i always dug the tonez of my friends cheap ashdown.

never played an ashdown what wasnt boomy woofy and crap.

any hartke is lovely, the orange bass terror is great for the money

carvin BX500 I got mine for $370 new. 7 lbs. 500w and a tube pre amp. most important it sounds great with pedals. Am I the only f**king bass player on this f**king site?????

No, you're not. Like a third of us are bass players, if not more.

+3 for the ha3500. I rocked one for two years.
GK400 rb is an awesome bass amp for the $$$
I would recommend a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0. Super light and LOUD!

I got a V4b in excellent condition for $550 last year. :idk:

Also, I played through a few of these older-looking units sporting what appeared to be a VU Meter and a simple large-slider-equipped graphic EQ. No idea what brand/model. They were pretty neat - if you see something like that, try it out.
