Absolutely! I visited the Emperor shop last month and it was the best! Cabs, amps, beer, basketball hoops, skateboards, mini-bikes, some huge, creepy WWI era facility...plus Dylan and the guys will show you a great time, make sure you have the next day off for recovery! Here's some pics.
Also - I spent like 2 hours reading all the interviews on that Gearnerd tumblr. I didn't realize so many guys in bands had the same kind of guitar lesson experience that I did - Start guitar at 12/13 and take lessons, then give up after a year. The difference is that I had piano lessons first (gave those up), and then spent middle school and high school in band learning the French Horn, without a tutor (which is a hard fucking instrument to master and makes you kind of a dork, but I was a dork.) And then in college I studied jazz history (my minor), classical music, and some theory before I got out of there..

Cool fact about Evan and his Tele usage.....he ONLY uses the neck pick up. He has used that 5150 for many years and it has always baffled me that he gets it to sound so damn good. He also mainly uses cheapo BOSS pedals and such. Proof positive that you do not need to break the bank to sound like a king.

So true, I saw the Melvins last year and Buzz had nothing but Boss stuff on his board. There's definitely no questioning the authority of his tone, said he prefers to have pedals that can be replaced quickly/cheaply on the road, so Boss is his go to.
Took a few listens but I'm loving the new album. Didn't grab me right out of the gates like the others, but it grew on me quickly. I think the production on Old Wounds dominates this new one, but I'm sure it will be mind blowing live.
I think Future Heart is my favorite song from their albums. The guitar is just perfectly balanced in there and sounds great. That said, I started with the track on their Myspace after being tipped off to Young Widows' existence in this thread, and worked my way backwards through their albums. Old Wounds is certainly getting more play than I expected, too.

Totally agree! Old Wounds is a little more open and big sounding to me, probably because a bunch of it is live. I like when bands change it up and progress though, it's how it should be.
I didn't get to go. I'll probably miss Red Fang next week too. I've basically been working nonstop at my new job and taking care of a million other things.
Really sad I missed it
