So I've been researching a little more and it's definitely either the Arc Flash Oscillator or the AB-Synth. I realize it's a personal preference but does anyone have reasons for why one may be better than the other?

^this was the reason the XS AB-Synth was my first oscillating fuzz, it's just plain handy. Footy. Whatever. :joy: Oscillates and makes awesome octave down bass synth sounds with rolling guitar volume back, plus the bare fuzz indeed sounds pretty damn good. And there's a LOT of the gain, enough to scare Your sound engineer already by noon :omg:

Besides the Fuzzhugger (fx)AB-Synth, I also use Devi SPAE, TBD, and Bitmangler, and Dwarfcraft TGD and delay for oscillations, whichever feels right at the heat of the moment. With sag control and a boost, the Bitmangler gets crazy lofi sub octaves or octave up sizzles and whistle! And together with the AB-Synth, TGD is the most interactive oscillating pedal I've run to, it does so much noise by rolling your vol pot You'll end up playing long notes only for Your solo parts.

Well if you're talking AFO vs Abysnth, the AFO seems to offer more of a range of distortion, from boost to splattered fuzz. The ABS is just fuzz with a lot of balls. Not to say it doesn't have an array of different textures of fuzz. The ABS5k may be a different story though. Again, I highly encourage getting the AFO and giving it some time and if you decide you don't like it, you should have no problem flipping it, or maybe trading for the Absynth.

The Arc Flash in general can do anything from slightly overdriven boost to super-splatty fuzz, with a ton of range in between. Add the hi-gain switch to that and you've got two really nice pedals in one. Add oscillation to that and you've got a whole mess of fun stuff. With the AB-Synth, you do have a very thick, synthy fuzz just on the distortion side, and then when you add the oscillation, you can do sub-octave bass synth, gated video game shit, diving noise notes that you can let go by themselves or play over to create different weird 8-bit dives.

I haven't tried the AFO (only the stand alone Arc Flash, which is sweet), but the AB-Synth 5k is AMAZINGLY responsive to volume knob manipulation, especially when you get into some of the weird super-deep and growly bass synth fuzz. And you CAN control that, too, once you fine tune it. It takes some time to get to know, but that's because it's got so many fun different things it can do... it's like a fun mystery box.

I've owned a bunch of oscillating fuzzes. The most unique was the 4545. You could get those really complex static washes, pitch oscillating, and everything in between. The supersonic fuzz gun was cool to interact with the volume knob.

That was prob me...I am terrible about getting demos up in a timely manner. On top of my recent personal troubles and whatever else, it's seen delay after delay. ONE day it will be done.

I'm still figuring out new stuff with the AbSynth (5k)...8 months later.

Seems like they are both really good options. Did you make a decision yet? I get excited for other people having NPDs...especially glitched out ones

The AFO rocks. The pedal is as CBA said above, then the oscillation is cool because you can play over the oscillating tones. Then you can piss about with the volume knob to change the pitch. Some really grimey, nasty tones in there :)

Also don't forget the Wolf Computer :thumb:

I'm really leaning for the AFO. I really like the idea/option of playing overtop the oscillation and it kicking back up when you stop playing. Definitely what I'm looking for. So yeah I'm definitely gonna go for it.

I'm not one for splatty fuzz becuz it is juzt to harsh but I dig all the other unique oscillating tones it produces.
