It must be as much an aesthetic as a symbolic choice, I expect, as it constitutes a crude and relatively ineffective form of censorship. I imagine they maintain an interest in state censorship, totalitarianism, espionage, surveillance, cryptography, etc.
They would obviously be naive to think that slightly disguising a Malekko pedal could significantly contribute to the downfall of Western capitalism.

So why not use that a form of protest? Just because it has no effect doesn't make it non-valid.
