I was thinking the same thing! Perhaps he has a few go-to sounds and sequences that are well-rehearsed and then the rest is on-the-fly creation.

Bad horsie is super under rated.

funny random fact - people say that the circuit is just a crybaby

another funny fact - Vai now has both Crybaby and a Bad Horsie on his board

It's similar to a crybaby in some ways - the wah circuit itself is similar but with a different inductor and some different values, but that's where the similarities end. The bad horsie is buffered, has an ldr instead of a pot, is switchless... If you want cocked wah sounds then you need a crybaby style wah on there as well. Soundwise you can get close enough with a bad horsie stock, or you can mod it a bit.
Switchless is awesome...

Eh I used to have a switchless wah but I didn't really gel with it, I like cocked wah stuff, there was a bit of a delay between moving the treadle and it actually making wah noises and it seemed to mess up the sweep a bit. I can see why people like it though, I really thought I would.

F'real, this is killing me.
I think of cables in terms of "how much longer is this thing gonna go before it fails and what can I do to avoid fucking it up too quickly", so stepping on anything is like HHHHNNNNNNGGGGGGGG. I don't have much confidence in cables, especially long instrument ones.
I even have to thread the 1spot daisy chain power cable things through the 1/4" ones in a specific way so as to avoid anything folding in on itself and laying on top of my pedlols. The five-plug string can't just be attached to pedals in order, it's gotta be arranged so there's only a little slack between plugs.
Shit bothers me more than it should.
