Affordable/best-deal 5 string basses?

Post by gunslinger_burrito »

I might look into trading some gear I don't use to acquire a 5 string bass. However, I am still kind of unaware what, in the bass world, is a good deal. I'd be looking at no more than $500, and that's a high estimate right now.

I'm gonna throw out the obligatory Squire VM suggestion. There's a couple fivers in that line that are probably worth looking at.

Oh shit, I forgot about that. I have a four string VM Jaguar and I like it pretty good. It's also the only bass I've ever really played...

I always suggest these but seriously get a SUB Ray5. They play and sound so good for the money.

Schecter Stiletto Studio or Elite 5 and Ibanez SR505 are amazing quality for the price and can be found for well under $500 used. ESP are also great bang for the buck, and are often overlooked by many bass players simply because they are more commonly associated with metal.

I love my G&L guitar, but if end up getting a 5 string, those are a bit out of my feasible price range.....

Those Schecters have awesome body shapes, I dig them a lot. These all look cool, to be honest......

Try find an old Washburn XB500. Well made, sounds and feels good. It is active but you can throw some passive soap bar pickups in there no problem. Will be doing than to mine at some point down the track.

Forgot about the Schecter Stiletto Studio 5, but I'll second that one, as well. It was my first five string and played really well.
Only reason I dropped it was to go to passive basses.

Yeah I'm not really into active pickups..... It's not really the tone (well, maybe when it comes to effects...) but its the fact that I dislike the idea of batteries.

Some of those Yamahas look real cool.....

I use rechargeable 9v batteries in my active because I like to be a friend to the environment. Works alright with rechargeables but yeah it would be nice to throw some passive soap bars in it. Most of the time I just play my Jag 4 string anyway. The Washburn 5 string was a gift so I wouldn't sell it. But modding it is fair game I guess.

soooooooooooooooooooooooooo......

I'm trying to burn up my tax return as fast as possible, apparently....
This bass looks so fucking sexy. Opinions?

Has anyone dealt with this website? They have a couple of these as B-stock, so I'm assuming they have minor blemishes or something..... Would it be more worth it to spend 30-50 extra bucks and order from a better-known site?

yeah, seems like the best choice

the Squiers have always seemed a bit janky :idk: the 5-strings specifically.
