I'm thinking to myself, oh this must be for jumpering lugs on the footswitch because it's a hassle to strip tiny wires. I cut a piece, bend a little U into it, and solder one side. Being a little thicker than the component legs, it works perfectly. I clip the extra, and then solder the other side.

Yeah, JD is nice because he literally includes EVERYTHING you need in the kit. a GGG Red Llama was actually the first pedal I ever built

If you go BYOC, when you buy your first kit, they give you the confidence booster for free. Just a simple clean boost, and its practice for your real kit. I did their DOD 440 envelope filter as my very first kit, and it worked perfectly, first time. So did the confidence booster. I love BYOC

I just built up an all germanium Muff with the GGG kit... sort of like a Hoof but different. I'm waiting for paint to dry before I stuff it into the enclosure and bring the rock.

JD really does include everything. There are twice as many extra components as I actually used.

Well, the boost is just a PCB, no switch, no controls other than a trimpot, and no enclosure, so don't expect it to be like, getting another kit free.
Also, I think GGG is much better, just because of how comprehensive it is. Theres every instruction you would ever need on the website, and it's literally ALL inclusive. The only thing you need to supply is a soldering iron.

For starting out, a Red Llama sounds really good

I built the GGG Brassmaster kit and thought the same thing at first.

They supply you with wire. I didn't use it, because I'm a whore for appearances and wanted only purple wire. My wire broke because it's solid core. Dreading fixing that. I might just build a new one. >.>

But, yeah, GGG is awesome. Other than the way they drill the enclosures. I don't like the layouts. Same with BYOC.

What does GGG include that BYOC doesn't, other than solder? If you have to get a soldering iron, it's not that big of a deal to get solder, too. And I found the BYOC instructions to be pretty damn well written, too. Plus, BYOC has an analog delay kit.

Idk, I just found BYOC a little unfriendly and un-personal I guess. I am a bit biased because I've actually spoken to the guy behind GGG in an email, and found him to be a very very nice guy. I haven't actually dealt with BYOC outside ordering one kit from them... so . They are both great choices, and I'm sure you can't go wrong with either one
