Any one here likes jazz fusion?

Post by Rabelais »

Hi.

Any one here likes jazz fusion (jazz rock, jazz funk, etc.)?. If so, who's your favorite artist?. Favorite album?

Mine is "Filles de Kilimanjaro" by Miles Davis (technically not a full fledged fusion album, but almost there).

I was gonna say Filles de Kilimanjaro isn't quite full-on fusion.

Yep, I listen, but I don't call any of it fusion anyway.

I don't really know if this's considered fusion either:

I won't pretend to be a full-fledged aficionado or anything, but I think Alan Holdsworth is pretty swell!

Yep, jazz fusión and free jazz. And Larry Young plays the Hammond.

Most jazz fusion is a musical emissary from satan. And not the good satan who blesses heavy metal with the souls of a thousand warriors, but the satan who fucks with everyone and foists unspeakably bad things on the world. Like jazz fusion. And socks and sandals.

I really like Holdsworth, screaming headless torsos, some John McLaughlin but otherwise radiate anything from ambivalence to general negativity when I hear fusion.

Mahavishnu Orchestra have some sweet jams.

Does the more jazzy side of Canterbury prog count?

there's a lot of terribleness to wade through in the fusion waters, but there are some really awesome jams in there.

Yes I think so. The Canterbury scene was independent from the US jazz fusion scene, but it definetely blendend jazz and rock.

I agree. Best fusion album by Chick Corean and RTF. I don´t think they ever repeated this level of consistency and energy.
