okay so i played it last night for a bit through my Ampeg. first impression: more scooped than im used to. but nit sounds cool. up to about 10 o'clock on the distortion knob is pretty much a really edgy overdrive, and then anywhere past that it turns into a thick fuzzy distortion. basically it does what i was hoping it would do. cant wait to rock it amadeus at practice tomorrow. might make it on the board for our festival show on saturday.
rats are the best edgy overdrive tho
i really like the dist. ~10 o'clock and filter around noon kinda sound with the VR. only reason i kept my '86 over it is cos the VR sounded a bit too woolly in the upper gain range, they have a certain smoothness that's cool though, and a lot of volume on tap. for a higher gain sound try stacking an EQ or boost or something into in with the volume pushed a bit, I found that way got more articulate higher gain sounds than by cranking the distortion.
Seconded. I really dig my VR. They are a modders dream pedal. So much room in there to do things. I've only done a little bit to mine so far. But I have plans to do a lot more.
I hated RATs until recently. Now my board is two clones, one set to a really low gain, always on sound with tons of volume, and one set as a distortion that I use for fuzz and that's the only dirt I'm using.
