Board OD ideas -- am I a perpetually unsatisfied idiot?

Post by colossus »

Pretty much re-doing my board for the :idk: time. Because why ever play a show with the same board twice? I wish there was a Sisyphus smilie.

I sold my Fuck to a member here a couple of weeks ago because I desperately needed money. Now that it's gone, I'm realizing just how crucial it was to my sound. Concurrently, I am also trying to keep my board minimal (in terms of space and budget) while also maximal in terms of tonal options. I've been toying with just getting another Fuck. That obviously makes the most sense. Second to that, maybe trying a Mini instead (though the crackle weirdness was really what made me love the Fuck) or a Barbershop or a Driving Notion or some other unique OD. BUT I also need a new verb. So.... maybe I should just get another Reverberation Machine? Reverb is an always on thing for me and I loved the RMs grittiness with that middle knob cranked. But I got rid of it because I stopped using verb stupidly and the OD sound was overkill with my Fuck.

What do you think? My memory of the RM is somewhat hazy but do you think I'd be satisfied OD wise with it? That's basically two pedals for me in one enclosure, and at about $90 each.

If you like the low fi od of the fuck and the mini, and don't want to break the bank, pick up a boss XT-2. Gain on zero and judicious use of the weirdly named tone controls is an awesome lo fi, tweedy sound, with a really pleasingly odd decay to the notes. And you'll have plenty of change for a reverb. And another fuck in the future.

Sounds like you should try the Industrialectric RM-1N. It's very similar to the Reverberation Machine but has a lot more control so you can get the crazy OD sounds or dial them in a little more specifically. Plus the reverb is awesome. Really great pedal everyone should try once.

I love the Reverberation Machine. A lot! Crackles so good. But I still really want an RM-1N--my sense is that these good people are absolutely on point--it just does so much more. I feel like I would still want a dedicated OD with the the DBA (Fuck and Reveration Machine would be an awesome combo-I hope to try that someday--I do currently love DBA RM+ Mini). But I could imagine going it alone with the Industrialectric, either for gazy washed out sounds all the way to amps exploding in a shoreline cave. Definitely gonna run you more than a DBA alone, but probs less than DBA + Fuck.

Dat Xtortion sounds awesome--I love lateral problem solving! Prices seem like they are starting to creep up though. Xtortion plus a Madbean Moodring or Grind Customs Tenebrion build would be another awesome flava.

Ah shit, that couldn't have helped at all.

Good luck with the search man--there are some cool alternatives out there

That Boss ain't bad. I'll keep my eye out. And I really, really, really want an RM1 AND an Echo Degrader, but i would need to find them around $200 used to fit my budget.

+1 to the RM-1N suggestion. It will do a fuzz/od tone along with the 'verb.
so much gear...

all are pretty solid options. if you're looking for a jack of all trades kind of thing you should definitely get an rm-1n. the verb is second to none imo and the dirt sounds so good on it's own. lots of possibilities within. haven't tried the dba rm but that also seems like a solid choice if that's what you're going for/trying to save $. but if you're looking for that fuck drive sound, you're not going to get it any other way :)* the mini is rad, but I found it a bit dark + the slightest touch of crackle can really bring out the sonic flavorssss. seems like whatever you decide at this point will be good shit :thumb:
i'm glad i can call you a friend. even if i'll never see you again

Another vote for the rm-1n, love the dba rm too but rm-1n is next level. Really don't care for od but love the fuck for the crackle which is unique to it afaik....other than crackle on sonic crayon vessels end but that's a tremolo or the melusine filter from hexe.

If you know what you need....just get it again.

Don't sell it next time. Sell something else, or better yet, stash a little cash when you buy yourself the replacement. Do the same whenever you buy a piece of gear.

Came here to say the same thing.
