Re: short delay vs. long delay
I've been happiest with the three head ratio of the RE-301 for years (130ish/260ish/720ish), and variants of that.
If I use longer stuff it's usually around 2s.

Re: short delay vs. long delay
I have the time knob on my meet maude pretty much always pointing at the top right corner. It;s pretty quick. Works for everything.
I dunno what MS that is though.
This is before dirt. Longer Digi delays at the end.

Re: short delay vs. long delay
For boring postrock delay tones I have a dual delay preset in the H9, one at ~300ms and another one at ~1s.
For the weird pitch shifted delays I just tap the tempo.

Re: short delay vs. long delay
i like things around 250ms. about 8 repeats. that ends up sounding nice and distinct when you need it to, but also gets mellow and soupy with chords and such

Re: short delay vs. long delay
I like everything up to about 500ms, my favourite range is probably around 250ms, nice and washy.

Re: short delay vs. long delay
A fav, even default DMM setting of mine is for some depth and a faux-reverb effect:
Shorter Delays w/high Feedback setting, 95% dry Blend so the repeats are barely audible. Needs to be a DMM or a real tape echo due to the repeats' decaying on a gradual taper.
I like using all types of delays w/longer times to play in the pocket between the repeats for rhythmic, even percussive shiz:
Guess I'm a fan of intervals...300ms, 330, 400, 500, 600, 660, 800, 900, 1s 1.2s etc. They're extra useful for developing timing when practicing, even in the writing process when feeling out tempos.

Re: short delay vs. long delay
I've found that for me it's more about the amount of repeats than the delay time. I will note that I only use really long delays for loop layering with repeats that trail off

How are you guys so sure of your MS? I just whip a knob somewhere and then adjust to taste.

Re: short delay vs. long delay
I like to have both.
I also like to stack them together.
I like the short one analog and the long one digital.
No need for tap or to sync them.
Imperfection is what's best.

Re: short delay vs. long delay
I tend to go with 300-350 for most stuff, and occasionally a really short slapback.

Yeah, I keep my Maude pretty tight as well - my favorite use for it is practically a modulated reverb. Super short repeats, long feedback. So good.Ev_O))) wrote:I have the time knob on my meet maude pretty much always pointing at the top right corner. It;s pretty quick. Works for everything.
