No worries dude it's just words on the internet.
Definitely a bummer when you see a band on a really killer night and then wind up with a lukewarm set the second time, for sure.
good deals are here.

I never got the interpol / jd comparison past the vocals to be honest. Old mate's bass playing was no way near the simple genius of Hooky's.

Interpol definitely do sound like Joy Division... I thought that was the point?

Like, "Joy Division aren't around anymore, but hey, we're here to pick up where they left off." Plus, they're a little tighter and more polished than JD, if that's your thing.

Kind of like... Tallest Man On Earth is a newschool early-career Bob Dylan (except nmore Swedish), and My Chemical Romance were like The Misfits, if they actually wrote songs, were influenced by Queen, and "sold out"?

Or (television analogy) like Fringe was just The X-Files... but everyone liked it, because they missed The X-Files.

It's okie for a band to rip off another band. Sometimes it really works out. Need I remind you fine people that St. Vitus literally wrote their first material by playing along to Iron Maiden albums at a different tempo.

This having been said, I never liked Interpol. Overrated. The early 2000s starting with The Strokes was a rich, rich area for original indie rock and I don't see why Interpol got so much attention.

You know who was influenced by Joy Division, made their best records at the same time as Interpol fell into the same Brooklyn/SPIN/Pitchfork demo, and didn't kind of suck? Bloc Party.

EDIT: Okay they kind of sucked, but their good stuff is untouchable (i.e. Silent Alarm).

Agreed with the two above statements. Although I don't think MCR "sold out". I'm pretty sure they're doing exactly what they want to do.

Seeing Homeshake tonight, pretty hyped for some post-Mac Demarco chill vibes. WAY WAY WAY hyped for Riot Fest next month and Battles in October (PS, any ILFers gonna be there in MPLS?)

yep, that's pretty much it. I am a big believer in that "at least this music is still made by someone" mentality. You might not admit that but Interpol also went a bit beyond the JD shtick with a bit more poppy and groovy feel in some songs (Rest My Chemistry for example, which is fucking awesome and so good live as well)

Love both Fringe and X-Files for different but similar reasons. Love Twilight Sad and Interpol and might really enjoy Joy Division if I didn't feel very judgemental against every person with an Unknown Pleasures t-shirt and therefore didn't try to escape listening to them

Fucking SLAM DUNKT

ohh... OOHHHHHH there's one super awesome summer act surprised I saw at a festvial we played. Seward. Incredible Tortiosey math rock/jazz/ambient something crazy from Spain. Saw them play two different sets, bought the vinyl. Apparently they're quite obscure, but they do have a couple songs on youtube. BLEW MY MIND BIG TIME BOTH TIMES, can't really describe the feeling. But they might easily make my top live experiences.

awesome gearheads as well

Dude. I'm there. I used to love the Fall of Troy. That's some sweet nostalgia right there. Do they have new music? I feel like I'd really love the older, slightly slower version of their old stuff.

Yob are playing on friday and I can't be bothered going :idk:

Annihilation Time are playing a one off reunion next month in my city which is the other side of the world from their home town and I probably won't go just because of how much I'll hate the crowd :idk:

BOLT THROWER ARE PLAYING NEXT MONTH AND I'VE ALREADY BOOKED THE NEXT DAY OFF WORK BECAUSE I'M GOING TO HAVE A FUCKING BANGOVER THOUGH.

Being old rules.
