What can I do with my 2 ohm cab??
Hey guys, I have one of the old tall Peavey cabs with the silver strips down the side, and it's the model with porting on top and bottom of the speakers instead of in the middle. On the back it says the cab is 2 ohms, but one of the speakers was replaced so I don't know if someone rewired it any more than that?? Anyway, the cab is front loading and has a solid back that I can't get into, and I have to take out the speakers to get into the back and when you do that, it's sectioned off and you still can't access it. I just don't have any idea what to do!
How do I check the impedance? Any idea what heads (high wattage tube preferred, ampeg v4 and sunn style stuff, but really anything) could safely run it? Is there a way I can rig an 8 ohm head to work with it? Please help, I've been struggling with this for months and I had to come to the forums. Thanks in advance guys!

You can plug a speaker cable into the cab and probe the cable with a digital multimeter to get the ballpark for the cab's impedance. Red probe to the tip, black probe to the sleeve, choose the 200 ohm or closest setting on the meter. Should work.

Also if you know each speaker's impedance after you get the ballpark total from the meter, you'll be able to tell by the math if it's wired parallel or series. Off the top of my head if it's wired parallel the total impedance would be half of one speaker's impedance, if it's series it would be double of one speaker's impedance.

The meter on the input jack will show total impedance.

Peavey made a whole bunch of heads that can push 2 ohms.
A multimeter will show something less than the nominal impedance, so if you're expecting 2 ohms and it shows 1.5 or whatever, that means 2.
How many speakers? Anything written on them? Pictures would be useful.
