Excellent, thanks for posting this. Love Cultes Des Ghoules. Looking forward to their new album for sure.
Just discovered Pale Challice out of CA. Definitely recommend checking them out. Not anything like CDG, mind you, just some good new black metal out of the US.
Uh, I feel lame for saying this; I want to get into genre, I think it sounds cool and I can get with the vibe of it, BUT
A) the vocals kill me. Most of the time, the singing is just a hiss to me.
B) NO dynamics. I'm a bitch and like quiet/loud/quiet/LOUD stuff.
So, that said, is their a way to get more into Black metal? Are there "black metal-lite" bands? I feel fucking wack asking this.
Edited because I'm an idiot and meant black not death.

Not wanting to go full elitist but I see a distinction between death and black metal. Death metal is much cheesier instrument wise... Actually just cheesier in general. I'd just start listening to what everyone has been recommending.

Honestly, "Black metal lite"/ a good entry point for the uninitiated would have to be stuff like Wolves in the Throne Room, Deafheaven and Bosse de Nage I think.
I know its not the kvltest shit out there but it was where I first got into it 2 years ago as a cheeky teenager.
And yeah, massive difference between black metal and death metal.

If you wanna go balls deep with some weird stuff, Lurker Of Chalice and Leviathan are GREAT. Very dynamic arrangements and varying vocal styles.
I feel like I used to like WITTR more than I do now. The whole atmospheric sub genre of black metal starts to all sound the same after a while, save for a handful of absolute gems.
They are definitely pretty damn good. Does anyone like that new synthtastic record they put out? I thought it was pretty awesome.

you might like Botanist, they have a very different approach to vocals for the most part. I am also obsessed with them so I kind of want to recommend them to everyone.
