 You guys.

Nearing the end of this "project". Just started my masters degree, and it doesn't look like I'll have a lot of spare cash for pedals, nor the time to make demos (at least not with this amount of editing). Also, there aren't many more oscillating fuzzes out there I'm interested in trying. I have the Copilot Trek from the tourbox now, and will probably do that one this weekend. Then there's the Silver Apple, which should arrive today, and that I'll try to demo next week. And that's it. It's been a good run. :!!!:

Eivind, keep up with the demos, they're great. I mean, even 3 a year would be rad. You get bonus points for your excellent sock game. :thumb:

Can't wait for your take on the CFX Trek. It was my favorite pedal in the CFX Tourbox. IT SQUEAAAAALS.

 Will actually be sad to see this oscillating fuzz fun come to an end. But yeah, education is more important than oscillating fuzz. Can't believe I just said that  It has been one of my favourite threads to watch and enjoy, and it has been one of the only places where I was free to say fucked up things without judgement.
Good luck with your masters degree Eivind. I hope you do find some time to enjoy yourself amidst the chaotic schedule of studying. I know when I was studying for my diploma it was difficult to find the time for myself.

Aaaaaw.

Hey, it's still a week left, so there's more fun to be had. Also, I plan on making sort of an end of the journey vid, with pairings and craziness. And of course, this thread doesn't have to die. The discussion of oscillation will never stop. Aaaaand if I do get my hands on any other oscillating fuzzes at any later point in my life, I might demo it. For old times sake.

Anyway, thanks a lot guys. You da bes.

This pedal is simply fun. It's sort of a two or three trick pony, but it's a trick I'm sure a lot of you will love, namely the snes lolocaust of massive subs and glitchy weirdness. It sounds really great, and using an expression pedal to control the 'flux' control opens up a lot of cool possibilities. And it's cheap. And digital. And awesome. YES. Bonus: Works great for making static or mangling chords into a mix of white noise and atonal guitar sound. Also seems to unlock more harmonics across the frets. I really love this one.
Do my ears spy a lil Purcell by way of Wendy Carlos by way of Oscillating Eivind? Awesome!

Eyh, thanks, Dando! Your suspicions regarding my musical influences are indeed correct.

About to sit down with the Trek and make some noise. Demo will drop sometime tonight.

Copilot FX Trek

Now this is something else. A fuzz that delivers gated velcro madness, raw rawk toanz and high pitched whines. The oscillations might not be the most tweakable, but they do sound cool, and having them on a momentary footswitch makes it easy to accentuate riffs or deliver stuttering fragments of morse code. Also, it has the enigmatic width-knob that shapes the general sound and opens up some neat possibilities, especially when controlled by an expression pedal. Yeah, cool box is cool.

Thanks! Just wait until you see what I come up with when I demo the Silver Apple. :yay: Hopefully I'll make you gas for your own creation. :!!!:

While you're here, could you explain something which I've noticed but don't know the technical details about? Namely, interaction between oscillations and the guitars volume/tone controls. Some of these fuzzes lets me tune oscillations with the vol on my guitar, some doesn't. The original Wolf CPU didn't really react much to my guitar knobbies, while the Silver Apple does instant cool shit when I tweak. So, what's up with that (in laymans/pleb terms if possible)?

Hmm. I don't think I've ever designed an oscillating or feedback loop fuzz that didn't interact with the guitar's volume, pickup selection, and tone knobs. I would imagine it would have to do with where in the circuit the pedal is oscillating. For example, if the oscillations are occurring within the pedal but after an input buffer stage (such as a transistor or op amp that boosts the signal at the input) then the guitar's controls would be basically isolated from the oscillation in the circuit. If the whole pedal or first stage of the pedal is also oscillating then the guitar's controls would impact the resonant frequency of that oscillation, so playing with them/switching pickups will affect the frequency it produces.

Now as to why your Wolf Computer didn't interact much with the guitar controls...good question. It could be because the Silver Apple has a much much smaller Sag/Voltage pot value. Wolf Computer would be oscillating at a much lower frequency if you had the voltage down even past probably around 3'oclock and it could be that the guitar's controls just didn't have much impact on that frequency range.

Allright, thanks. I actually sorta understood that explanation. Makes sense. It's been a while since I had it, so my memory of the WC could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure my guitar knobbers didn't have much impact.

Anyway: And now...

Shoe Pedals Silver Apple

This thing is amazing, and I'm not just saying that because the creator is right over there. It does so much, and in such an easy and intuitive manner despite the aboundance of knobs to tweak. I was also pleasantly surprised by the straighter overdrive tones I can get out of it. The 'fuzz' knob is really useful in tailoring the overall sound and feel of the pedal, and the tone knob does a great job of reeling in the highs. While this is roughly based on a Wolf Computer AFAIK, it is its own thing. I can get my favourite sounds from the WC, but also much more. A tweakers dream, and an oscillating fuzz I'm sure will appeal to players who are not into the whole noise thing. Videogamefuzz forever.
